"I...see," Kase hesitantly replies, still unable to grasp the situation. "Zacharius—"
Aries sighs in comfort, and in a moment, a calmness overtakes Revelation as if a gentle breeze blows over him on a cool summer morning. His temperature goes down and all ailments dissipate, then a dark cloud forms beside him on the bed. The cloud takes shape, and there Aries is—golden eyes shimmering and green hair glistening in the morning's light. They spread their black feathered wings out to their sides, stretching.
"Ah! I feel good," Aries says in a quiet and content voice. -
I stared in awe, curious as to how and when they had wings, but I felt better knowing they were back. I put my hood back on my head to cover my ears, still feeling shameful about the comments the last few times anyone said anything. "Are you okay?", I asked concerned.
-
"Yes, I'm fine," Aries replies.
Kase shakes her head in disbelief. "I can't beleiv3 you're okay! I need to tell the captain!" Kase rushes out the room before anyone can utter a word.
Zacharius, smiling warmly, looks to Revelation, then placing their hands on his cheeks and giving him a kiss. They then rest their head on hia shoulder. "Are you alright, Revelation?" -
I chuckled and held their hand, smiling slightly and reeling from the pain of the sickness. "Yes. Now that you're feeling better. Although, I fear my life may now be in danger.", I sighed, staring at the door in worry for myself and Aries. I turned to face them and slightly smiled, feeling lost in love.
-
"My love, I thank you for coming to my aid, but now I fear that the Kateris will be after you, as well. Duran is not kind to witches or allies of witches. And after seeing that talisman of yours, he may very well assume it to be magic." Zacharius' look becomes more dire as they then ask a question. "Revvie, tell me—are you a mage of any sort? Something felt different about your aura when we met, but I can't place my finger on the feeling."
-
I shook my head in response. "I'm not a Mage. I haven't practiced magic in my life." Hearing something about my aura changing did make me reflect to myself for a bit, wondering what could have had that effect. Could it have been my emotions? We've only known each other the past few days, but I felt so strongly about them. Could it have been my rage that changed me? I sighed, unsure of what to think of any of this.
-
Zacharius gazes down at their hands for a moment before forcing out their words, reluctantly. "I–I love you, and I don't want you to get hurt."
Zacharius closes their eyes, opening them again with a cold and sharpened gaze, releasing Revelation's hand. "You have to leave. The Kateris will be here to destroy us. I just know it. The only thing I can do is get back out there and head them off before they wipe out my people.... And if Duran finds you, he'll want to experiment on you to see what sorcery you used to save me. He'll hold you hostage and torture you to your very death. You must leave," they say again, voice breaking as tears stream down their cheeks. "And I must go."
Just then, Kase re-enters with a grave expression on her face, but as she catches sight of the tears glistening in Aries' golden eyes, she is thrown off guard. "Zach?" Kase sees Revelation sitting right with Zacharius, and how he appears to be deeply concerned, but, shaking her head, Kase assumes it is because Aries is in physical pain, then continuing to address them. "Zach, the captain says the Kateris has been spotted coming down the mountain towards the village. They must've seen the path we took back here after we retrieved you."
"I know," Zacharius grimly replies. "Rescuing me may have been a bad idea. Duran now knows where we live. All we can hope to do is keep him out of the village. What are the captain's orders?"
"Captain Kholer is currently riding through the village, telling the others to find shelter or prepare to evacuate. We're all under your command, sir."
Aries slides off the bed, taking a few steps towards Kase, with a serious and thoughtful gaze. Taking a deep breath and standing straight up, they finally reply. "Tell the troops to prepare for battle. We'll leave out immediately."
"Aaaaand him, sir?" the girl asks, pointing to Revelation.
Revelation looks as though he wishes to speak, but Aries speaks before he can. "He was just leaving."
"Alright." Kase nods firmly, then rushing out the door.
A cold atmosphere floats like heavy fog between Zacharius and Revelation. Zacharius holds their hands behind their back, and their long, olive-green hair whips out from behind them as they jerk their head over their shoulder to eye Revelation, not saying a single word before turning back to the door and slowly walking towards it. -
I looked at the ground, then back to them. "Wait.", I stuttered. Glancing around the room, I had to make a brash decision. I didn't know what I could do. I felt as low as when I saw them, minus the fury. I... loved them. And I didn't want to leave them to fight this mess on their own. "I'm not going. As a matter if fact.", I took off my hood and threw it to the ground. I held two silicone pointed ears in my hand. "This is something I was working on when I was alone. What I'm doing is going to be using these to no longer hide, and fight with you." I placed them over my own ears and tightened the clip so it looked natural.
-
"You cannot come with me. I won't allow it," Zacharius states, nearly snapping as they turn around to face Revelation. "Go back to where you came from. You'll be safer there. I must do this alone, and if you follow me, I WILL keep you away, myself..."
-
"You almost DIED last time. There's absolutely no way I'm going to let you battle this threat alone, even if you try to, I'll always come back.", I snapped, trying not to let the tears show. "I'd give my life for a better tomorrow, no matter what."
-
"You are not prepared to face this level threat. If he can kill a witch, you can be sure you can die, as well, and I'm not letting that happen. This isn't even your business," Zacharius adds. "Just go home."
-
I was taken aback, at a loss for words, and feeling far more miserable than before. "I let you heal within me as I was bedridden for a week because I was worried about you. And you just wish me to leave?" I thought of it a moment, then glared at them. "I thought you were different. I can see I was wrong.", I hissed as I walked past, saying nothing else.
-
Unable to speak and filled with a flurry of emotions, Zacharius grabs Revelation's hand and yanks him back to them. Face burning red, and unable to conceal their emotions anymore, Zacharius breaks off into a firy rant in German. "Du Idiot! Du verdammter Idiot! Du denkst, das fällt mir leicht?! Warum kannst du nicht einfach meine Hilfe annehmen?! Ich versuche dich zu beschützen, aber anstatt das zu sehen, vergleichst du mich mit anderen und ärgerst mich!" Not even thinking afterwards, Aries reaches up and swings their hand to slap Revelation.
-
I turned back and grabbed their hand before they had a chance, glaring them down intently. "Leben gerettet! Und beinahe ZWEIMAL gestorben, um dich zu retten. Wie ist DAS fair?! Du willst nur, dass ich gehe? SO SEI ES.", I growled, gritting my teeth as I slammed the door shut.
-
"Dann geh du b------," Zacharius wails. "Go!" Zacharius collapses onto the floor, crying on their bed.
After a while, they recollect themself and join the troops outside.
Kase runs to Aries, looking relieved. "There you are, Zach. You took a minute. Are you okay?" she asks, seeing the grim gaze on Aries' face.
Zacharius grows distant as they respond. "I'm fine. Let's move out," they command, glancing back over their shoulder.
The soldiers move out, leaving the village and heading to war.
