"Uhh maybe," she said. She nocked a second arrow and took her position, obviously determined to succeed. She let the arrow fly. It hit the target an inch away from where the other one had hit

Lares pursed his lips, but he was throwing out words of encouragement. "At least you hit the target. I see a good archer in you, Erina," he complimented her.

Erina could sense some fakeness, almost as if he didn't mean what he was saying. "Are you sure?" she asked.

"Yes." Lares tilted his head. "Of course."

"Huh," she said. She aimed the bow again then let the arrow fly.
It hit the bullseye!
Erina lowered her bow and stared at the target in shock. It was her first day, and she had hit the bullseye on her third try? How? -
Lares was so impressed, his jaw dropped and he didn’t speak for a few moments. "Amazing! Seems like you’re already better than me," he joked.

"I - I don't even know how," she said, absolutely flabbergasted.

"Luck is essential in arts like archery," Lares said calmly. "It’s not just skill."

"Pfft," she laughed. "You should see me, I am one of the unluckiest people you will ever meet."

"Maybe so," Lares admitted. "But nevertheless, you have succeeded where I have not. On my fifth day, I was still barely getting by."

"I don't know," Erina said. "Maybe I'm just having a good day today and I'll be worse tomorrow." She wasn't used to being a natural at anything, being great at something.

Lares smiled. "Whatever the case, you hit a bullseye today." He clapped in approval.

She smiled slightly. "Thanks," she said.

"Keep working hard." Lares quickly added, "Do you have trees close to home so you can practice? I can give you some arrows."

"Plenty of trees, I live next to a forest," Erina said. She walked over to the target and yanked out her arrows. "And I make my own arrows."
