"Oh, shut up!" Basil puffed his cheeks, lightly swatting at the wolf's arm in response to the teasing. Though despite how serious he wanted to look, he couldn't help giggling at Cyrus's childish behavior. The way he stamped his feet was somewhat cute. The younger shook his head a bit, smiling and feeling as if the other were staring at him. He didn't mind the gaze anymore. Basil made another disgusted face at the other but still held his smile. "That's gross, protein or not. What if you eat something poisonous? Or something like..a stink bug? That would be really gross. And honestly, you're still a pup to me." His eyes sparkled at the thought of getting to explore around the town, to learn about all the unnatural possessions that others made. "..What kind of people live here? What do they descend from?" Basil was curious to know what kind of people he would meet, yet he feared they would be carnivores like the wolves. And that they would try to eat him since Cyrus's pack wasn't allowed to.
-
"You shut up, you started this war." Cyrus couldn't help but refer to their fighting as a small war. At the rate they were going, he could imagine a rather silly scene of them separating the pups into teams and having a fight. He couldn't decide whether they'd use sticks, leaves, berries, or other objects that could be easily thrown. The taller was taken from his small, childish dream as he looked at Basil's face once more. It was almost as if the other boy was a distraction from his thoughts, though Basil was already the center of the alpha's attention. "Bah, bugs are all the same. Minus the poisonous ones. I can tell the difference between those and normal bugs. I'm not as dumb as you think I am, Basil. Not a pup, either," he paused to shrug. "I'm not sure. It's not one we've been in, so I wouldn't know. I'd assume that they descend from various species, though. Some might be nice, some might be jerks, it all depends. We'll have to find out."
-
"You started it when you took me from my home." The lamb moved to try to catch up with the others, not caring if Cyrus didn't want to keep up. He was too excited to see what was beyond his home now. Basil averted his eyes whenever the wolf tried to look at him, admitting to himself that Cyrus had the most beautiful blue eyes the lamb prince had ever seen. He felt as if they could see through him to his soul, but even so, he wanted to get lost in those eyes. But that would be weird if he just stared at Cyrus all the time. "You sure do act like a puppy, the way you stomp your feet." Basil smiled and rose a brow at the other. "Didn't you come here to get us a place to stay? You had to have met some people while you were looking."
-
"But we weren't fighting back then. That wasn't a war. A war is a clash of insults, like what we've been doing right now. Which, again, you started," the wolf paused to start following Basil. They had somehow managed to get far behind the pack- he wasn't sure how they had accomplished that at all, but he didn't mind. He couldn't place his finger on it, but he felt new emotions towards the lamb prince- they kept bouncing around through him as their time together got lengthier. "I don't mind fighting you, though. You're keeping me amused, and I'd hope I'm returning the favor." He grinned when the lamb made a remark about his current immaturity. "You're pulling out my inner pup, but mark my words, it won't be like this forever. Stomping is a way of expressing emotions for even grown up wolves, you know.." He blinked, then shrugged at the other. "I didn't pay too much attention. I mean, the inn keeper was a woman.. Very soft voiced, but she seemed nice. There were some people lounging around the lobby. They varied genders and sizes. One looked big with multiple scars. Probably a warrior. Another was a smaller man who was playing with flowers.."
-
"...I don't think that's what war is. I'm sure the word you're looking for is quarrel. Actually, not even that. This is just pure verbal conflict. That you started by calling me tiny." Basil wanted to hurry to town, to explore it. But he mostly just wanted that bath. The lamb rolled his eyes and shook his head at the wolf. "I'm actually getting a bit annoyed. The only thing that amuses me is when you act like a puppy. I've never stomped before. My people are far more level-headed than yours.." Basil listened to the short description of the few people the wolf had seen, but his mind began to wander. Forgetting that Cyrus was there for a moment, the lamb softly hummed a tune to himself while he drifted.
-
"No, it's a war," the older barked at Basil unhappily. "Don't test me. I can call this bickering whatever I want. And.. You started it because I said so." He turned his head away, refusing to accept what the other was trying to say. His stubborn side was starting to come back, so the wolf wasn't going to give into the other's words as easily as he had been. There was a pause, then a famous snort. "Me, annoying? I'm insulted. I'm sure you did, when you were younger. A temper tantrum, maybe. Something where you did actions that you didn't want to." Cyrus looked at Basil, but the other male looked like he was getting lost in his own thoughts. He fell silent, looking away to allow the other a chance of silence.
-
"Bickering is a better word, too. Heh, 'because I said so'. Such a childish thing to say." Basil didn't really take his words into consideration, seeing as Cyrus was beginning to sound more and more like an upset pup. He shook his head in response to the idea of throwing a 'temper tantrum'. Growing up, he never had a reason to be upset about anything. He lived in peace and had everything he could ever want as a young lamb. "Nope. I don't recall ever experiencing one of those. Clearly you've done that a lot in your life though. It looked so natural when you stomped around like an angry puppy." Basil huffed and went back to humming, eventually converting the tune into a series of 'la's.
-
"Who cares what the word is? We were fighting. No need to label it. People say that reason all of the time, I'd know. You were enclosed in one area, you haven't traveled nearly as much as I have. You only knew the actions of your people. You will learn that it's not childish." He glared daggers at the other, starting to get angry. He felt like the lamb was staring to get cocky- Cyrus inhaled and calmed down as he realized he had no reason to be angry. "Perhaps you never felt a reason to be angry as I did. You lived a simple life. I guess I'm not surprised.. There's nothing wrong with stomping. It's a way to express feelings." The alpha sighed, crossing his arms.
-
"It's a stupid reason for people to say. It holds no authority or meaning to say 'because I said so'. No one listens to someone who cannot provide a reason." Basil narrowed his eyes at the wolf, stopping to turn on him. "So what if I haven't traveled as much as you? I lived pleasantly before you showed up and I was happy to continue living in peace with my friends and family. The only thing that makes me angry is your childish behavior." The lamb stopped listening to Cyrus entirely and tried to go back to the tune he'd been trying to sing. But it was lost to him now, the wolf having distracted him one too many times. He knew he shouldn't say what he was about to, but Basil strongly felt that the alpha wouldn't do anything to him anyway. "Dumb dog, you ruined the song! Stop talking."
-
Cyrus's anger started to bubble up inside of him as Basil refuted what he had said. He walked in silence, not feeling the desire to continue to speak to the other. What had started out as a joke to him was very suddenly starting to upset him, and he was afraid that if he continued arguing with the lamb, he'd get too angry- or worse, he'd wolf out. The sunlight was fading quickly behind the trees now, though the town was much closer than it had been. But all the wolf could focus on was Basil. Basil, Basil, Basil. He didn't expect the other to be able to come up with harsh enough words, though. It looked like he set his expectations down too low, though, because as soon as Basil called him a dumb dog, he turned on the other with eyes cold as ice. "Would you mind repeating that, little lamb? I don't think I heard your words properly. At least, I would hope not."
-
"Dumb dog. Are your ears not clean? Maybe you could use a bath, so you can hear when I speak to you." Basil snapped back, turning away to keep moving towards the town. They were just walking into town and the lamb decided to fall silent as to not start a scene in front of the townspeople. It wasn't anyone else's business what they argued about and, for the first time in his life, Basil was angry. Angry at the wolves for invading his home. Angry at the way Cyrus had threatened his father. And angry at himself for being so weak. The lamb wanted to find his little pup friend Molly to confide in, or to at least distract him from the alpha. "Now are you done talking?"
-
Cyrus's blood went cold as he inhaled. "Dumb.." And then it was boiling, he could feel himself getting heated up. No, his skin was burning, as if he were sitting under the sun. Snarling, he lashed out at Basil, his nails turning into claws and his teeth sharpening. The blue eyes were burning with a raging fire as he dug his claws into the lamb's left arm. There was a sort of temptation to rake his claws down, to tear the smaller boy limb from limb, but he did not move his claws any further. In fact, Cyrus slowly pulled his claws out, grunting and snorting almost at once. "..I can hear as well as I see. Don't insult me again, little lamb." As the fire boiling inside of him died down quicker than it came in, he yanked the other up, starting to drag him down along the path. The pack was waiting, and he heard a few gasps from them when they saw the blood on Basil's arm. He said not a word as he went straight for the Inn, cruelly dragging the lamb behind him by his injured arm as if he were a broken object that had to come with him.
-
Basil didn't have much time to react before the wolf's claws were in his arm. He released a noise of distress and wanted to pull away, but instead he froze in place to keep from injuring his arm further. The lamb hadn't expected Cyrus to turn so quickly, seeing as the wolf enjoying picking at everyone else, but if someone were to give the same treatment to him? He would've likely killed them. But the lamb, despite the pain in his arm, spat at the other when he began to roughly pull him towards the inn. "Let go of me, you mutt! The way you act, no wonder your pack doesn't like to converse with you!" Basil couldn't stop, wouldn't stop, spewing his distaste for Cyrus's attitude and personality. Yet the lamb prince made as much noise as possible, sounding almost like a real sheep as he did so, and hoped someone would get in the alpha's way.
-
Cyrus ignored the shouts coming from the other. His mind was elsewhere- he was distant, but just enough there to have an idea of where he wanted to go. Silently, the wolf shoved the Inn doors open. He blinked as he adjusted his eyes to the light setting in the lobby. A few of the people looked up; some were the same that he had seen earlier. He ignored them all, however, and pulled a key from his pocket. As he stared at the number to start to figure out where the room was, he lessened his grip on the other boy as a sort of peace offering. But the wolf didn't completely release him and they were off once more when Cyrus had located the room. Finally, he spoke, "I'll prepare a bath for you. It's too late for you to go outside. No, that's a lie- I don't want you to leave my sight," his eyes scanned each door as he looked for theirs. Before he could continue searching, he felt little claws digging into his side, and he looked down to see a small she-wolf gazing up at him with wide eyes.
"Alpha Cy, Alpha Cy, don't hurt him! He's breakable," Molly cried up at the older wolf as she clung to him. "You're going to alert other people, too. Think about it." -
Basil continued to be as loud and noisy as possible, but it seemed as if no one cared that he was in danger. He couldn't tell what was going through Cyrus's mind, but when he felt his grip loosen, the lamb tried to pull away. Yet even his small wrists didn't allow him the escape he needed. The wolf seemed to be lost in his own thoughts like the lamb had been earlier, but once he began to speak, telling Basil he wouldn't be allowed out of his sight after his bath., the younger frantically shook his head while trying to pull away. "Let me go. It's not even dark out. And..And I'm not taking a bath in front of you! So the moment that tub is ready--" The lamb prince cut off, Molly small voice tickling his ears. He looked down, curious to know when and how she got to the alpha. He reached out his free hand to pet her head, thankful for her presence and words.
