The lamb made a small noise, staring wide-eyed as the pack approached and pressing himself against the wall further. He didn't like that they were even breathing the same air as him, but disliked the way they laughed at him more. "It's not funny.." His cheeks turned a light red as he pouted. Wolves really were cruel creatures, even more so in reality than in stories. He looked up at Cyrus, trying to search his eyes for deceit. Basil slowly nodded, thought the way the leader said companion gave him chills. "Okay. So long as you leave my people be and never return to this meadow, I'll do whatever I need to." Of course, the prince moved quickly to see his father for the last time.
"Basil, you should've stayed hidden. You didn't need to do any of this. We would've been fine had you not." The king frowned, gripping his son's shoulders gently.
"No we wouldn't. They probably would've found me eventually, even then, they likely would've ate everyone else besides the little ones at that point. A king does what's best for his people, right?" Basil tried to smile but found it more melancholy than reassuring. "Take care of everyone that's left and be sure to put the lost ones to rest properly." He pulled away, cautiously moving back pver to Cyrus. "..I'm ready." -
Cyrus smiled faintly as the lamb prince made an unhappy noise as his pack filled up space behind them. The smile grew as he saw Basil blush a soft shade of red at their laughter. He loved making fun of people, and if he'd get a reaction like this every time he made fun of the little lamb, the wolf was positive that the prince was worth his pack needing to hold on just a while longer for a food source. The wolf grinned happily as he heard the lamb agree to becoming his companion.. Secretly, Cyrus knew that he would become his, but the word companion sounded better on his tongue. He waited for the prince to speak to the ram, rocking on his bare feet that were dirty from wandering outside without shoes. He stopped once the lamb wandered back over, and with a happy tail swish, he signaled for his pack to take the lead and exit the castle. With an 'oh', he turned and smiled a gruesome smile at the king. "It was a pleasure doing business with you. May your kingdom prosper." The leader took Basil's hand and pulled him to the door, barely hiding his excitement at the prospect of having a lamb among their ranks.
-
The ram grit his teeth at the smile, shaking with anger and haveing half a mind to shove his horns into the wolf's back, but he knew that would be risky for Basil as well. If Cyrus moved at the right time... A small 'tch' escaped him as he watched his only son be pulled along with a pack of flesh-eating monsters. "Take care of yourself, Basil." He called after the lamb.
The prince nodded at his father before being tugged forward. He would've preferred to not be touching a flithy wolf, especially the alpha male that allowed his pack to do as they pleased, but there wasn't much he could do about it. Questions seemed to rush into his brain all at once. "Where are we going? Can we stop and get some water? Or bathe, at least?" He paused for a moment, a bit of fear in his voice. "You're not..gonna eat me, right..?" -
Cyrus waited until the two of them were outside to release Basil's hand. He looked at the lamb, taking a moment to process the questions that were being spat out at him. He shrugged, looking at his pack, that were passing by the crowds of sheep and heading straight for the forest. "Soon, we can stop. Because I didn't let my pack eat all of your people, we'll need to continue onward for a bit in hopes of finding a newer food source. There's the occasional rabbit, I suppose, so we could eat those if we can catch them.. Deer, too. That's besides my point, I guess. We'll stop when I feel like stopping. And.. Bathing?" The leader covered his snickering face with a hand. "We don't bathe often. That's something you'll have to get used to as you travel with us. However, yes, we can bathe once we stop to get water, provided you aren't an arse during the trip."
-
Basil eyed the wolves, watching as his fellow sheep moved away from their fear of being devoured like so many others. He didn't want to accept the fact that he was more than likely going to pass fresh carcasses along the way. He looked back at Cyrus, trying to push the thoughts from his mind to avoid gagging. "...I don't eat meat. So that would be all you there. And what if I get so tired I can't walk anymore? Then what are you going to do for your companion? Carry me?" The younger teasingly stuck his tongue at the wolf, realizing he was practically jumping into a roaring fire. The idea of not bathing for more than a day or so made Basil wrinkle his nose. "Well, I'm bathing, regularly, whether you like it or not. My hair is too thick to let it get dirty and stay dirty."
-
Cyrus kicked at the grass as they neared the forest, his eyes catching sight of some of the bodies that were there on the ground. He was surprised to see that there were less than what he had thought there would be. His attention returned to Basil as he said more words- the wolf was sure that they were important, though it was beginning to get irritating. "That's fine by me. You can eat whatever you please. And.. Perhaps. Or we'll leave you behind for another pack to gobble you up, depends on my mood. For example, right now, I'm being extremely tolerant. But it's rare." He grinned, flashing his sharp teeth to Basil. "You'll find that your prince status has no value among us. As for your bathing.. Whatever. Don't ask me for help finding a water source, that's all on you." He lightly pushed Basil to make him walk faster, and soon, they were in the forest. The pack crowded around the two of them to get a better look at the new addition as soon as they had gotten into the cover of the trees.
-
The lamb watched the other carefully, his eyes focusing on those sharp claws. Maybe staying hidden away would've been better for him after all, but his life over the rest of the lambs, they were more important. "I just need...non-poisonous vegetation. And water." Basil looked up at the other with wide eyes. "Don't you dare leave me anywhere! What about all that companion talk, huh? You would leave a companion to die?" He despised the grin that the wolf seemed to never get rid of, thinking at he looked like some stupid over-sized dog. He sulked at the thought that lambs were so weak. He probably would've given the other a piece of hiss mind. And he especially didn't like the way the alpha pushed him around. Basil made a noise when he was pushed and as soon as he was surrounded by the other wolves again, his eyes shifted to look at his own shuffling feet.
-
Cyrus followed Basil's gaze down to his claws. Pulling his hand away from the other's back, he reflexively flexed them, staring at the dried blood there was inside of them. He glanced up at the lamb, amused by his tone. "We'll get you whatever you need, don't worry about that." The wolf looked back down to the sharp claws, pretending to be sidetracked. "I'd leave an annoying companion alone, if I were angry enough. But I guess I wouldn't leave you to die. No, if you were to die, I'll only allow it to be at my hands.. Paws.." He laughed softly at his own joke. "Wipe that look off your face, little lamb. Bah, calling you little lamb sounds quite dumb. Might I have your name? It starts with a B, right?" For the first time since the wolf had looked down at his nails, he looked up at the lamb with a serious expression. The grin had been wiped from his face, not leaving a trace that it had been there at all. "I want to be on a first name basis. I'm Cyrus. Don't call me Alpha or whatever else you might come up with unless I ask you to."
-
Basil fiddled with his fingers a bit, feeling somewhat relieved that Cyrus wouldn't allow him to do die, but felt a new wave of fear when he realized his life was literally in the hands of the alpha. "So staying on your good side is best.." He hummed softly, looking at the other and watching his smile disappear entirely. As much as the mb prince had wanted that annoying smile to go away, he didn't like the serious look either. "B-Basil.. My name is Basil." In an everyday circumstance, the lamb would say something along the lines of "Nice to meet you" but clearly his first time meeting Cyrus was far from nice. The younger couldn't help teasing a bit, despite how serious the other was. "'Little lamb', huh? I could call you 'dear wolf'."
-
The wolf nodded, finally signalling to his pack to back away from them both and walking ahead of them. He looked at Basil once he had gotten a few feet ahead, his tail starting to swish back and forth slowly. "Yes, that's it. You seem to catch on quickly. That's a good trait to have here." He turned away, focusing on the forest. For a moment, he was silent, sniffling the air occasionally and moving away from the smell of lamb. The alpha waited until he had found a trail to respond to Basil; when he did, he still did not turn to keep his gaze on the other male. "Basil.. Basil is the name of a type of herb, is it not? What an interesting choice of name. It's certainly one I'll remember." Cyrus looked down to his tattered shirt that had dried blood on it. He frowned lightly, looking back at Basil to compare their clothing. It started to irritate him that the prince had better clothing than himself, but he released the grasp he had on the piece of fabric and shrugged to the lamb. "Too bad I've told you not to call me anything other than Cyrus, otherwise that might be funny."
-
Basil enjoyed the distance, and made sure to keep it. Though he was away from the pack leader, he couldn't help feeling like the others were staring now. It felt as if they were undressing him, not only his clothing but his flesh, with their eyes. He wasn't even sure if he should be flattered or insulted when Cyrus mentioned he had a good trait. The lamb watched the wolf as he seemed to be following something, and waited for a response. He blushed, for whatever reason he couldn't identify, when the other said his name. "..A lot of us are named after natural growing things. Flours, herbs, trees, any vegetation really..." He trailed off, sensing the slight moment of envy. Basil nibbled lightly on his lower lip, once again testing his boundaries. "What if I want to call you that..dear wolf?"
-
As Basil was thinking, the whole pack had their eyes locked on the lamb prince. Many of the younger ones were sneaking as close as they could to the two of them to get a better look- some of the other members of the pack were whispering about his appearance and why he was even there. Cyrus took no notice to any of them and focused on only Basil. He glanced behind his shoulder to look at the lamb, but quickly looked away as he saw the rosy red blush on his face after the alpha had said his name. He pulled up a finger to his mouth to bite on it- something he did for stress relieving- and walked in silence again. He nodded to make it seem like he was paying attention, but in reality, the wolf was thinking about what he was actually going to use the lamb for. Originally, he had just wanted a servant, but from the few seconds and glimpses he had gotten of Basil up close, he found himself liking the fragile boy's body. He blushed slightly as he realized what he was thinking and tried to disregard that thought. He whipped around at Basil's comment, his face turning a darker red in anger and embarrassment. "Basil, don't test.. Me."
-
Basil glanced at the little ones, slowly shuffling away from them. They were cute and all, he admitted that, but they were still as vicious as, if not more than, their parents. Despite the all of the attention, the lamb noticed that Cyrus didn't seem to give them any mind. It was hard to tell if the wolf was actually listening to him or not, but once the other turned on him, red-faced from probably anger, Basil flinched in fear. He didn't like the look in his eyes either. There was something...lecherous within them, but Basil, not wanting to think such a thing possible, shook it off and averted his eyes. He swallowed hard and began to shake a bit, trying to apologize but stumbling over his words. "I-I'm sorry..I didn't mean anything...by it."
-
Cyrus gazed at him for a moment, his eyes full of fury and desire, until he finally turned away. "Lucas, come with me, we're going to scout ahead for the pack... Everyone else, watch Basil. Don't touch him, and if I hear someone hurt him.. Well." The alpha cracked his knuckles, waiting for his right hand man to join his side before the two set off jogging ahead. He looked back once at Basil, his angry gaze dying off, before he turned and disappeared out of view with the other wolf running beside him.
As soon as Cyrus left their sight, a female pup ran up to him, bouncing in the air beside him. "You're a lamb!" she exclaimed, continuing to bounce. "It's rare for someone who isn't a wolf to be here. Your name is Basil, riiight? I'm Molly!" She shoved her hand out, and some of the other small wolves gasped in surprise. She was smiling up at the lamb prince, her eyes big and happy. "I won't eat you, 'cos any friend of the alpha's is my friend. Plus I don't wanna get in trouble." -
Basil watched them take off until his ears could barely hear their footsteps in the distance., and exhaled a breath he hadn't been aware that he was holding. He still didn't feel comfortable with rest of the pack, especially without Cyrus there to take of any issues.
Not soon after the alpha's departure, the lamb prince heard the small voice from a youth and looked in that direction. The pup was so..friendly..towards him despite everything he'd witnessed and experinced with wolves. A smile graced his lips as he carefully took her hand giving it a shake. "Yes, I'm Basil. Nice to meet you, Molly. Well, so long as you don't bite me, I'll help you stay out of trouble if possibly though." The lamb hummed, thinking about all of the young lambs and worrying about their afety.
