"I..kind of have a way with children. They're just so cute and energetic." Basil flushed a deep red, covering his face in embarrassment. He didn't sound like a boy at all, he sounded like a mother or caregiver. He cleared his throat and turned back to the path they came through. "Yeah, I hope not. But you'll come to my aid--" Basil cut himself off, frowning and shaking his head. Of course Cyrus would rescue him. The wolf had told his father that no one would harm him but the alpha. What would happen then? He tried not to imagine it. "Anyway, we should get back to your pack. I need to find a place to take a bath, too."
-
"Were you with them, when you were in hiding? I couldn't help but notice that there were only fully grown lambs out and about. I'd only assume that they were with you, if you're good with children." Cyrus looked over at him now, curious to know if his suggestion was correct or not. Basil sounded like one of the she-wolves- it amused the alpha. "Yes, I will come to your aid, if you're getting hurt by someone. Trust me." He tried to finish the lamb's sentence for him and respond to his unsaid words. "We aren't too far behind, but sure, we can go catch up to them." He started walking, not waiting for Basil- he knew he'd be able to catch up.
-
"I was with them, yes. I was actually spending time with them before your pack showed up. I miss them.." Basil fiddled with his fingers a bit and watched the wolf, once more not liking the look on his face. He wondered more often than not what Cyrus was thinking about when he looked at him. If it would be a good thought or not. He was relieved to hear the other would protect him. "Thank you." The lamb perked again, following close behind the wolf with a whine. "Don't leave me alone out here. It might be daylight, but that doesn't mean others aren't out here who will eat me." He was actually surprised the other didn't grab his hand, so he took the initiative and grabbed the wolf's.
-
"Had I known you liked children, I could have asked for one of them to come along.. I'm sure you'll find the pack's pups are just as energetic as your young lambs were. They also won't hurt you, so you can find friends in them. Perhaps you can help the mothers tell stories and such to them, you might have ones they've never heard of." Cyrus gave him a small, sincere smile as he imagined the lamb prince sitting with all of the younger wolves and telling them stories at night. He nodded, shrugging. "It's the least I can do for you, since you might need a little help fighting off stronger people. I'm sure we can get you stronger, over time." He grinned as the lamb rushed after him, though he didn't stop. "Your training starts here. Keep up with me, I'll watch for people--" the alpha cut himself off, staring down at the hand that was holding his. He looked up, pretending as if it hadn't shocked him, and continued on walking.
-
"I love them. They don't know any better, so even when they do bad, they don't get punished harshly. They don't know right from wrong and you can just..shape them in your own way." Basil smiled at him sweetly and squeezed Cyrus's hand, trying not to get separated from him. He convinced himself that it was because he didn't want to get lost and that he was safer with the wolf. And the smile made him feel a bit more comfortable around the other. The lamb doubted he'd ever be strong enough to take care of himself, that he'd eventually be left for dead somewhere, but he liked the encouragement. "I don't know about that. I've never heard of a lamb being able to take care of themselves, other than a ram." Basil looked up at the other curiously. "Keep up with you and what?"
-
Cyrus laughed at Basil, stroking his finger over the back of Basil's hand. "Sheesh, you really would belong with the she-wolves in the pack. You sound exactly like them when they do something bad. Do you know that you sound like one? It's kind of.." The wolf trailed off, not continuing what he was going to say. He glanced down at their hands when Basil lightly squeezed his own. It helped ease his mind that Basil would run away or that he'd get lost. "Not having horns doesn't mean that you aren't capable of taking care of yourself. I personally disliked that one lamb for saying such rude things while you were gone. I see a strong heart in you, and strong hearts are the start of strong bodies." He paused, then shook his head, sighing. "Just.. Keep up."
-
Basil pouted at the older and looked away. "Well, I'm not a she-wolf, I'm not even a female. And it's kind of what? Stop cutting off. What do you think I'm gonna do? Fight you? I like being in one piece." The lamb puffed his cheeks in annoyance while trying to keep pace with the other, never letting go of that hand. His claws even tickled his skin. Although Cyrus was being a real jerk, he appreciated that the wolf seemed too be sticking up for him. "Still, horns are a great defense to protect the head, and depending on size, they can hurt a lot. But thank you, for..believing in a weak little thing like me, I guess.."
-
"It's kind of cute, that's all. No, I.. Don't believe you'd fight me. But some things that sounded right in my head are sometimes not worth saying out loud." Cyrus shrugged to hide his embarrassment at being caught for trailing off. "I really wasn't wrong in saying you were different. You seem to speak your mind more than not. That's new around here.. Especially when you're talking to me." He would have liked to stick his face in the other's, to scare him, but he kept his face in the same place it was and left the lamb alone. The walk was soothing, and he could already see that they were getting closer to the pack at the pace they were going. "No problem, Basil."
-
"You seem to think of me in that way a lot...And thank you, again. I just..I know my stance as a lamb prince doesn't mean anything to you, but even if I'm not strong, I still think we're the same in that way. We're both seen as leaders to our people. So I speak freely towards you." The lamb prince stared at his feet while the walked, knowing they'd be meeting with the rest of the pack soon. Since he'd never left his home before, he didn't know what to expect where they were going. He wanted to know exactly where they were staying and where they were going. "So, Cyrus, where are we sleeping tonight again? And is there a source of water nearby?"
-
"Is there any harm in believing that you're cute? Perhaps I can use another word. Adorable, maybe? I feel like adorable is too girly for you. Cute fits just right, believe it or not. Oh, please. I knew you'd act like a prince the moment I took you. You only made it clearer when you wanted to make sure you'd be able to bathe daily, or how you've acted for the small time we've shared together. I must admit I wasn't going to bother to treat you like one, though, and this is my warning. I'm not going to hurt you for talking the way you do, but I'm not going to give you everything. You won't always get shelter. Your life as a lamb is now being tied with mine as a wolf." Cyrus inhaled, giving himself a break as he noted to himself that he had gone on a small rant. The alpha had been taught that wisdom was important, and that sometimes lecturing another soul was all he needed to calm down. "In the town we're nearing, there's an inn. I rented a few rooms. Yes, there will be water in the inn and there's a river not too far from the town."
-
"Cute is a word used for children. Adorable is for small or short girls and infants. I'd prefer to not be referred to as either of the two." Basil stopped to listen to the short rant, feeling uncomfortable again despite the fact that Cyrus wasn't even mad at him. He understood that things would be much different now, that he'd have to adjust a new way of life. But after eighteen years of luxury and comfortability, he found it hard to break his habits from that easy life. "I know, I know.. When we don't have a shelter, what would we do? Or better yet, what do you usually do?" Basil pursed his lips, trying to count the pack members, factoring in the families among them. He was curious if he'd have his own bed, but strongly doubted it. The lamb suspected Cyrus would keep him close at all times, based on his attitude. "At least we'll have bed's and water for tonight. I think I'll find the river before nightfall, get my bath out of the way."
-
"You'd prefer, but that doesn't mean I'm going to comply with your wishes." Cyrus snorted, his colder demeanor starting to come back. "And, for your information, anyone can be considered cute. Not just kids." He would have crossed his arms, but he didn't want to let go of the hand that was holding his. He balled his free hand into a fist, sighing in an attempt to calm down. It wasn't Basil's fault that Cyrus had a weird attachment to him- he was bound to start acting like a wolf fawning over a she-wolf the way things were going. He's lowly unfurled his palm, ignoring the drops of blood that were starting to drip onto the forest floor. "We do what all wolves do- we curl up together, keep each other warm, and then move on. We have blankets and such, of course," Cyrus had to think about it, "and we have enough money for lodging occasionally." He kicked at the dirt, noticing that his palm was starting to hurt. "Hnn. The inn has bathrooms.. You can always use their tubs, you know."
-
Basil puffed his cheeks again, reaching up to nudge the other's cheek with his knuckles, almost playfully to keep the atmosphere from growing tense. "I'd prefer something that doesn't degrade me. If I called you a cute little puppy, you wouldn't like it either." Though his senses weren't as keen as the wolf's, the metallic scent of blood tickled his nose. It was clearly coming from Cyrus, but as much as the lamb wanted to make sure he was all right, he doubted the alpha would care for his concern. He sighed and listened to the other, not sure if he wanted to be curled up with a bunch of wolves at night. He hadn't shared a bed with anyone since he was a child nor did he like to share his bed, but to save funds or stay warm, he'd have to get used to it. That lecherous look Cyrus had earlier came to mind and he shivered. "I don't think..I can stand being that close to people. Not at first anyway. So if I seem rude by keeping my distance, I apologize. And I don't really know how to use a tub, whatever that is." Basil blushed with embarrassment. "We didn't have plumbing because it isn't natural.."
-
Cyrus growled lightly at the sudden cheek-touching, though he relaxed when he remembered that it was Basil touching him and not a stranger. He looked at Basil, sighing. He brushed the spot he had been touched with his fingers, grunting. "Maybe you're hinting something by saying the word cute, thus, I wouldn't mind. The puppy part, though.. Take that away and replace it with alpha. And the little- I'm big. So 'cute big alpha'. That sounds about right." He absentmindedly wiped his hand off on his shirt, smearing a small amount of blood onto his already destroyed shirt. As they got closer to the pack, everyone's talking got louder, irritating the alpha. He slowed down so he couldn't hear anyone but Basil well enough. "Suit yourself. It's fine, anyway, there are always those few lone wolves that aren't comfortable sleeping with the pack.. Hmph. I'll show you how to use one when you're more comfortable with us, then."
-
"Hinting something?" Basil looked at him in confusion, not catching the innuendo. "You're not much bigger than me. So you're a little puppy. Cute. Little. Puppy." The lamb gave him a playful smile, making each word stick out. Though his playfulness faded at the sight of crimson on Cyrus's shirt. He knew he shouldn't ask, but he felt the need to. "Are you hurt? I can clean it for you when we get to the..inn? Is that what it's called?" The younger trailed off until his companion mentioned the sleeping conditions again. "Doesn't everyone have family? Like a life mate or children that they sleep with? What do you mean by that? You won't show me how to use a tub then?" Basil pouted, not quite understanding what the other was getting at.
