"Alright. I'll be right back." She sat the now-empty glass on the table, and exited the cabin without waiting for Philip. By now, she at least knew the way to where she had bathed, and made quick work of getting to the kitchen, where she knocked on the door- Manners first, even on a pirate ship, Janette told herself.
-
Matilda looked up from her book. "Philip, I swear..." She muttered, getting up. "Oh!" She exclaimed as she opened the door. "Come in, dear," She moved aside "Is something the matter?"
-
"No, not at all," She said, a bit unsurprising that the cook would think something had happened, it being a pirate ship and all. "I just need to get my dress. Philip promised to introduce me to the rest of the crew." Janette gave the women a smile, and slipped into the back room, picking up her mostly-dry clothing. She contemplated dressing there, or back in the cabin, and ended up deciding on the former, closing the door, making short work of dressing.
-
Matilda nodded, and went back to reading her book.
Meanwhile, Philip pulled out his bottom drawer, and pulled a stack of papers. Old drawings from when he was in school to last week. He liked to draw the sea, mountains, anything he could find. He sat on his bed, and thumbed through the stack. -
Janette left, and head to the deck without disturbing the cook, pausing to glance over the edge of the ship. The soft morning light turned the ocean water to a pretty green color, and she found herself smiling as she knocked on the door to the cabin.
-
Philip jumped at the sudden knock, and hastily shoved the papers into the drawer. "Come in!" He called out, closing it.
-
She opened the door, stepping into the room, throwing his shirt at him. "Thanks for letting me borrow it. Can we go meet the crew now?"
-
Philip caught the shirt, set it on his bed, and pulled on a pair of socks and boots. "Your welcome, and you may." He said, linking his arm in hers. By now, the crew should have been waking up based off the sunlight. He opened the door for two, as a salty breeze came by.
-
(I was thinking, when she finds out, she should be returning from her hour on land that Philip promised her. And, instead of using it to escape, she went to a doctor to figure out what was up.)
Janette inhaled, a little taken by the fact that she was starting to like the smell of the ocean, the rocking of the boat.. Something she had expected to hate. -
(Yeah :3 I was also thinking Philip would send a guy out to follow her, just to make sure she didn't try anything maybe.)
Men were now walking around, getting the ship ready to dock for the next village. "G'mornin'." A few would say as they passed. Philip would introduce the two and move on to another crew member. -
(yessss)
Janette didn't say much for most of the process, simply smiled and waves, keeping close to Phillip.
(time skip to two weeks, and the docking?) -
(Yeah)
Philip held her close, giving her a small kiss on the lips. "Be careful out there." Men scurried around, one getting the anchor, another pulling the sails. "Need any money?" -
"Just a bit.. For another dress, and maybe some soap, and books, and.. Yeah." She sighed a bit, standing on her toes to give him a quick kiss. Over the past two weeks, she had become accustomed to Philip and his men, and was perfectly at ease on the ship. However, something had seemed a bit.. Off. She was hoping it was just nerves, but she couldn't shake the underlying feeling. Janette had been getting sick in the morning, and had to use the bathroom more often. And, there were other things, too.
-
"Okay, be right back." He slipped away to his cabin, and brought out a sack of gold and silver coins. Philip set them in her hands, his fingers brushing hers. "Would you like a sword? Just to hold around so nobody get's any ideas."
-
"I think I'll be okay, Philip. Don't worry. I'll be back soon." She slipped the coins into the pocket of the coat she had taken from her pirate lover, and slipped around his side, heading off the ship without another word. Of course, she was going to buy dresses, and a book or two, but she was also going to visit a doctor, and pay him handsomely, because it was still illegal in most towns for a women to visit a doctor without her husband.
She visited a book store first, finding a small autobiography of a man who had been one of the youngest to graduate from university with a degree in medical science. Afterwards, she visited a dress shop, and bought two short dresses, and two long dresses.
