Joey nodded, a little surprised. "I like horror movies too." But he would've expected someone like Christian to steer away from all the scary stuff, especially after what he'd seen in war. Joey could only imagine how painful that must've been.
-
Cristian ran the hand that wasn't holding the unlit cigarette through his hair, messing it up even worse than before, not that he really cared all that much. "That's just dandy," he muttered.
-
Joey fell silent, realizing he was probably bothering him. He felt a little guilty for dragging Christian all the way out here, only to have him seem just as grumpy as any other day. He glanced at him, frowning slightly, trying to remember if he'd see the man smile once. He didn't think so.
-
Cristian didn't notice that the other man had gotten silent at first. He just stared off into space in front of him, thinking that this wasn't all too bad. It was a relief on his lungs, he supposed, because he didn't really feel like hacking up a lung at the moment. After a minute of this silence, he finally realized that Joey had stopped talking at all and glanced over at him.
-
Joey was glancing at a couple of kids, running around the park. When he finally looked over to see Christian glancing at him, he smiled apologetically. "Am I being to quiet now? I figured I was bothering you with all my rambling.."
-
Cristian looked back away right when Joey looked over at him. "You just kind of stopped talking," he sighed, deciding to finally light the cigarette in his hand. He pulled out his lighter, and once the roll was lit, he took a breath from it, keeping it held between two fingers.
-
"Sorry.." He apologized again, waving a bit more smoke out of his face. Honestly, Joey was fairly certain he could start smoking and it wouldn't make a difference to his health. He inhaled enough of the stuff just being around Christian.
-
Cristian ended up just shrugging. He kind of liked- somewhat- just sitting here, doing something different. He his elbow on the arm of his chair, and balanced his cheek in the palm of his hand. ".. Don't you have other patients?"
-
Joey glanced at his watch and sighed. "Mm, I do..." He almost sounded reluctant to leave. "Should I go back to the apartment with you before I leave?" He asked.
-
Cristian was almost a little dissapointed when he said he did have to go, before he realized that it didn't mean he had to go back, too. "No, you go ahead. I think I'll stay here a while."
-
"Alright." Joey agreed, standing up. He was smiling again, happy to see that Christian seemed reluctant to go back to the apartment. "Tomorrow I'll make waffles, okay?" He grinned and grabbed his bag of the bench, starting to walk towards his next patient's apartment building.
-
Cristian nodded, and leaned back in his chair. The park was a sort of nice place, and he liked the fact that outside, smoke wasn't trapped around him. It disappeared, so he could see in front of himself most of the time.
-
Joey walked along, feeling rather excited. He had yet to see Christian smile, but they had made a little progress today. He seemed to enjoy being out of the house, and the doctor hoped that meant he would go out more often.
-
It was, admittedly, a really nice change of pace. It was a good hour- and only one cigarette later- before Cristian finally decided to go back home. He hadn't been smoking for the last fifteen minutes of the park stay, which he supposed was rather successful for a chain smoker like him.
-
Joey walked into the next apartment building and cheerful greeted the retired soldier waiting there for him. He was met with an equally cheerful welcome. It was odd, Christian was one of the few of his patients who never seemed happy to see him.
