"He knows his wife found out that he's been cheating on her. Funny thing is, he's not ashamed. He knows he could get away with it. He just needs to find some other-- he's staring at us." Rory walked away, toward what he presumed was the meat section.
-
Ella quickly turned away from the man's gaze and followed Rory into the meat section. She picked up a few more steaks and things for him to eat and turned back towards him. "How did you do that?"
-
"Your turn. You think of something." He smiled at her, then went back to looking over the meat.
-
Ella was a little frustrated that he hadn't answered her question, but she complied with a slight sigh. Her mind drifted to the beach her parents used to take her to when she was younger. The memory made her grin softly.
-
"The beach. Around the time that we first met. Why did you stop going?" he asked. He'd never been to the beach, since all of the sunlight would've been unpleasant.
-
Ella shrugged. "I'm not sure. My parents never really told me why, and- wait, how did you do that?" She asked, approaching the checkout counter.
-
"Mind reading. It's kind of new, actually. I figured out... six years ago?" Rory followed behind her.
-
"Six years is new?" She muttered to herself incredulously. She felt a little awkward, knowing that he could always see exactly what she was thinking. She payed for the food and stepped back out onto the street.
-
"Yeah. It's not happening all the time though, since it takes effort. I can't hear what's in your head right now, if you're wondering. Oh, you are kind of wondering. Sorry, couldn't help it." He held out a hand, offering to take the bag of food from her. "I'll stay out."
-
She laughed a little awkwardly. "Right." She shook her head when he offered to take the bag. "I can carry it. Thanks though." She started towards the apartment, looking at him with a childlike eagerness. "So what else can you do? Don't tell me you can fly..."
-
"Nope, definitely not. No flying." He laughed a little. "I'm a little bit faster than most of you, I have better sight, vision, and hearing, and I can read minds. That's it, that I know of."
-
"Aw, that's it?" She asked sarcastically. "That's pretty impressive...What about your fatal flaw?" She asked with a grin. "I mean, you're fast, you can read minds. You must have some weakness."
-
"My life span is about two thirds as long due to the fact that I drink animal blood. Oh, and garlic." He opened the door of the apartment building for her.
-
"Garlic?" She stifled a laugh. "So what about the whole steak through the heart thing, is that really the only way to kill you?"
-
"That'd kill anyone." He smiled a bit. "We do die eventually, it's just that we live so much longer than you."
