IHLAOY Newbie"Don't worry Ria, I have this all figured out. Hey, quick question, this town has easy access to diamond dust, right?" Macaria asked, smiling slightly.
A flash of light suddenly lit up the clearing as Hades cast; snake-like fire spreading from his fingers and launching at Macaria. She'd promised herself she wouldn't scream, but damn, fire hurt. Fire hurt a lot more than she'd been led to suspect it did. She could feel her organs boiling beneath her skin, could feel her skin flake and crack as the fire spread, travelling into her mouth, her ears, her eyes; leaving nothing in its path. It hurt so much, she couldn't take it; she needed relief, a hint of freedom, something! Anything! She'd do anything to stop the pain.
She'd promised herself she wouldn't scream. She'd also broken her promise that day.
And then she feel down, and didn't move. -
Diana watched, not able to tear herself away. She couldn't move, couldn't to use her power either. When the necromancer collapsed, her eyes widened. She stood up a bit, so that the other girl could see her, and nodded. She made a gesture indicating that she was on their side, and sank into the water, gathering her energy. kaede had once taught her how to draw energy from the water, and she was doing that now. She wasn't going to let that happen to someone else.
-
"Maracia!" Demetria yelled, crouching beside her. Then she whispered, "yes. We have easy access to diamond dust."
Hades laughed. "You still don't want to run little hero? Because this is what happens to the people that get in out way. Understand?"
Demetria saw the naiad in the water and nodded. She stood. "I understand completely Hades. That's why I won't let it happen again."
Hades smiled. "Good. Maybe I'll let you have a painless-" He was interupted when Demetria sent a boulder at him and it hit him in the face. Hades scowled. "You just chose your death, girl." -
And I'll choose yours. Diana thought, standing up and raising her hands, causing a massive wave to form behind her. She pointed her arms in Hades direction and the wave shot forward engulfing him. "I might be only 12, but I can do a hell of a lot of revenge." She said, stepping out of the water, arms still going towards the god. She dropped them, for a second, before raising the water into a bubble around him. Keeping the bubble, she walked around to the girl.
"I'm Diana." She stated, focusing on the bubble, glad Kaede wasn't here to lecture her about how 'ridiculously dangerous and stupid' this was. -
"I'm Demetria." She looked at the god and laughed. "Nice."
Hades stepped out of the bubble with ease. He looked at Diana and frowned.. "Another little hero, huh? I'll have to deal with both of you then." Hades held a hand out and a slightly bigger flame ignited. The flame spilt in two and hit the two girls, engulfing them in eerily green flames. -
Diana grabbed Demetria and drew the water around them, so that the flames did nothing except slightly singe them. "Knew I should've froze it." She muttered, trying to ignore her rapidly decreasing energy supply. She could just hear Kaede nagging at her; 'I told you so! You're not trained enough! Did you really think you could manage?'. She pushed the voice away, and focused on the protective water bubble, flinching as it started to evaporate. "Any ideas?"
-
"Against a god? Not really. I guess we'll have to wing it." Demetria looked at Diana and saw that she was struggling to keep the water up. "I'll step out so I can get a clear shot. You can keep the water going to protect yourself, which should take less energy." Demetria stepped out of the water bubble. She carefully stepped over to Macaria and shook her lightly. Then Demetria stood. She remembered that her teacher always said, you have an advantage to fire users. Earth blocks against fire. Demetria hoped he was right. She stood with one leg in front of her. She touched the ground, looked at Hades, then raised her hands. The ground rose around him, formed a sphere, and hardened into rock. Demetria stood, panting. That took a lot out of her. Hades broke out of the rock easily. So much for earth beating fire, Demetria thought.
-
Diana let her arms drop as soon as the fire stopped. The water dropped with them. She looked Hades in the eye, wondering if she and Demetria would get out of there alive. She sighed. She was exhausted. Her hands made their way to her dagger, which she clenched protectively. If anything happened, she still had that, at least. "Look, I have no idea who the hell you are, and you probably think that I'm related to some Hero of Legend for being able to do that alone. That is where you're wrong. No naiad is ever alone." She told the god defiantly, hoping to unnerve him. In her mind, she was already working out what to say when she was at his mercy. If it ever happened. Which she doubted. A lot.
-
"Well your alone right now." Hades said with a smug smile, "and I don't think your a child of a pesky hero, I know you are."
Demetria blinked me turned to Diana. "You are?" She asked. Then she turned back to Hades.
Hades laughed. "Yes, she is." Hades held his hands slightly apart. A green spark of lightning appeared. "Time to take care of you pests once and for all. You can't block anymore as your magic is drained. I have an endless supply of power. You can't win. Goodbye girls." Hades clapped his hands together and a wave of lightning burst causing everything to explode.
Demetria fell. -
*and (not me)
-
Diana acted confused at what Hades said, but knew it was true. Wasn't it the very reason she didn't fit in? He could see right through her. "No one is ever alone." She said quietly. Her eyes widened as the lightning appeared, and she tried to find some energy, any energy inside her as she tried to shuffle away. Water can conduct electricity... she thought, suddenly, in a moment of split second inspiration. When he clapped, the young naiad drew upon the water, and tried to make it do her will. She failed, depleting the last of her energy. She screamed as the lightning hit, her; it was pain. Pure pain. Nothing...nothing could compare to this.
Her body hit the ground with a dull thud, and the world went black. -
IHLAOY NewbieWalking across the tiled floor, Macaria's feet made no noise. That was mainly because she didn't wear shoes, but the reason she didn't wear shoes was much different than the reason she wasn't wearing them now.
A table sat in front of her, apparently summoned from the plane of tables, and Macaria sat down. A robed man sat down across from her. The two of them stared at each other for a moment, before Macaria motioned at the table. "Best of three?" She said.
"I shall be white." The man responded.
Shrugging, Macaria leaned forward. "So this is it then?"
"You were expecting different?"
"Expecting, but not anticipating."
"The clock is still ticking."
"Not ticking for me."
"Ticking for them."
"I'm not them." Macaria said.
"You are you?"
"I am me."
"A distinction?"
"A separation."
"Important details."
"Subtle inflections, but that is beside the point, Eraper."
"You know my name." Eraper replied.
"I've studied you. Some would say you were the focus of my studies."
"Fools?"
"A fool is a man without judgement, they had much of that."
"Time?"
"Well, we have much of that, and you are hardly the fool. Best of three, remember?" Macaria replied.
Eraper shook his head, "Shall we walk then? There is much to discuss."
"We have time. And discussion must still be made."
"Hades is out there."
"Hades is in here."
"Hades can be wherever he pleases, he is a god."
"I wonder if gods can feel as kings, sometimes." Macaria asked, placing a hand under her head.
"Only in the cold, Macaria, only in the cold."
Macaria stopped for a moment, looking down at the table. With a hint of a smile, she looked back up at Eraper. "Checkmate."
"Best of three."
Macaria shook her head, "The clock is still ticking, plans must be changed."
"I have said that before."
"And you shall say it again, but now I am listening. Let us walk, Eraper." -
"Diana!", Kaede shouted as he watched her tumble to the ground, And she wonders why I was so hard on her, I knew this day would come but..so soon?, he shot a glare at the God. Fear didn't register in his mind. He ran towards her fallen self, he picked the girl up gently and swung her over his shoulder. "The s--- this girl gets into", he muttered to himself.
Forcing any near by water to rise, he sent it flying towards the God, encasing him in a bubble of water. Concentrating hard, he willed the water to become frozen solid, he knew it wouldn't hold the God, but he knew it would at least weaken him. He glanced at the other girl, and the other. He wouldn't be able to carry them all. -
Hades broke out of the ice. "Honestly. I could've returned earlier, I was just building up my strength." He said, as if reading Kaede's thoughts. "No attack can hurt me. So why do you underlings stay fighting?" He looked at Kaede. He frowned. "Another little hero? It's my lucky day! I don't have to go look for you. It is a pain." Hades held a hand up and it became encased in pure darkness. "This will make sure you all come to the underworld the hard way. Only the power of light can defend against this."
Go help your friends. That was all Demetria heard from those words in her weakened state. How she survived that blast she wasn't sure, but she knew that she would have to get the others awake if there was to be any hope that her crazy plan would work. Demetria shakily got up. "Come on girls, I think the man has done enough for us. Time to help." Demetria smiled at Hades' surprised face. "What? Miss me?" -
Black. That's all Diana Talent saw. And silence, she was drowning in silence. Was she dead? No, she couldn't be. Not yet, anyway. She felt someone lift her and hoped it was Kaede, not Hades. A voice pierced the silence. Demetria. "Come on, girls. I think the man has done enough for us. Time to help."
Her eyes flew open. She was staring at Kaede's back, hanging over his shoulder. She quickly wriggled off, saying the "The f---, Kaede?" In typical Diana fashion, before almost immediately collapsing as her knees gave way. She grabbed Kaede, and used him to pull herself up. With her free arm, she pointed at the river and slowly closed her fist, feeling the energy of the water drain into her, as if cool water was being poured over her body. It wasn't enough to fill in her depleted energy stores, but it was enough.
