She blinked and walked up beside Chris.
-
He exhaled, flexing his wrists and fingers a bit. They were tired and painful, just like the rest of him. He turned, hearing his friend behind him. "Let's eat," he said, adding a smile. He hoped she couldn't see through his healthy facade.
-
She tilted her head slightly, but nodded. "Okay.."
-
He picked up a plate and cut one slice from the large pizza. He picked it up and placed it on the plate, the melted cheese, like thread, hanging off the side.
-
She smiled slightly. "It been forever since I had pizza"
-
"Same here. We should experience the first bite at the same moment," he grinned, waiting for her to take a piece.
-
She took a piece of pizza and put it on a plate. "Ready?"
-
Chris nodded. "3...2...1..." He took his first bite as Jenifer did. It was amazing, an explosion of flavor after a long period of time with bland food after bland food. He grinned after swallowing the bite.
-
Jenifer grinned back. "I've missed this." She said.
-
"I've missed it, too," he chuckled a bit before taking another bite. His mother walked in.
"Ooh, I smell pizza." She grabbed a plate and a slice. "Extra cheese? You kids really want to get on my good side, don't you?" she joked, smiling. Chris could still see the sadness lingering in her eyes, creating great contrast with her ecstatic grin. -
Jenifer chucked slightly. The women seemed sad, though. Of course she's sad, she's losing her son. She thought sadly.
-
His mother bit into the pizza, then swallowed the food. "The basement's ready whenever you'd like to head down there. There's snacks, drinks, and a stack of horror movies. I know you both love those." She left the room, plate and pizza in hand.
-
Jenifer grinned. "Movie time?" She asked turning towards her friend.
-
Chris nodded in agreement. "Definitely." He placed his plate in the sink and closed up the pizza. He put the box in the fridge, then shut the door, ending the cool blast of air.
-
"Let's go." I said, taking his hand and bringing him downstairs.
