They entered the pizzeria, the door jingling as it opened and closed. Chris paid for the pizza and picked it up. It seemed a bit on the heavy side, which was an indication that the leukemia was in fact returning. He ignored the extra effort he had to use, making it look like a normal function.
-
Jenifer stood beside Chris while he paid. She looked around the pizza place.
-
He held the pizza box steadily with both arms. It was still quite a task, but he masked the strain it was causing him almost completely. "Ready to head back?"
-
Jenifer nodded. "Yeah. Let's go." She said, hold open the door.
-
Chris walked out of the restaurant, carrying the pizza box. He held the door open with his foot for Jenifer once he got outside.
-
Jenifer walked out the door, and looked at the sky. "It's almost pitch black.." She said, she always secretly had a small fear of the dark.
-
"There are street lamps most of the way. Don't worry." He have her a reassuring smile.
-
She nodded, secretly relieved.
-
They walked a bit faster than the pace they had come at. The pizza became a lead weight in Christopher's arms, slowly weighing him down. He was relieved when he caught sight of his house just a few houses up the street.
-
Jenifer looked over at him, he seemed to be in pain. "You alright...?" She asked.
-
Chris nodded quickly. "I'm fine."
-
She gave him a look, but let it slide.
-
They finally reached the front porch. Christopher pushed the door open and let Jenifer enter before entering himself. His arms felt like jello once he put the box down on the table.
-
Jenifer sat down on a chair, glancing worriedly at Chris every so often.
-
The sick boy opened the cabinets overhead, taking out some plates and glasses. He set them on the table quickly, then fetched the pizza cutter from the drawer to the right of the sink.
