"Okay, I'll be back in a second," Jess said, winking at Kent. She walked out to the kitchen, only to find her parents talking. She ducked behind the wall to eavesdrop.

Kent sat still, watching Sammy swim around.
"Should we bring Kent with us? We should probably get him subject to change," their father suggested. -
Jess continued eavesdropping, now very interested in the conversation. What the hell are they talking about? she thought.

Their mother sighed. "Yes. He has to get used to little changes. Because in a few days, we're all in for a huge transition."
Their father nodded. "We should get dinner. How about we pick up the papers and some takeout?" -
What huge transition? What papers? Jess thought. Once her parents left the room, she walked into the kitchen and grabbed a bag of Goldfish from the cabinet, and brought it back to her room.

Kent looked up, smiling when he saw the bag of goldfish in Jess's hands. "Smiley fishies."

Jess smiled. "Yup!" She sat down next to Kent and opened the bag of Goldfish.

Kent took a handful of goldfish, eating them one by one. After he finished his handful, he looked up at the doorway, seeing his parents there.

Jess looked up at her parents. "Hey, Mom. Hey, Dad."

Their parents smiled. "Hi, guys. We were wondering what kind of food you wanted. We're ordering takeout."

Jess shrugged. "I'm fine with whatever Kent wants. What do you want for dinner, buddy?"

Kent furrowed his brow, thinking. He had the word on the tip of his tongue. "Ch...ch..." He sighed, defeated.

Jess smiled at Kent, hoping he would get that she meant It's okay, buddy. "Cheeseburgers? Chicken nuggets?" Jess asked.

Kent shook his head rapidly. "Nuh uh. Chin.... Chines...." He paused for a second. "Ooh! Chyn-Eez..." He drew out the sounds longer than normal.
