Karl nodded, watching Nick for a moment before looking away, realizing he was staring.

“Alright, just gonna check your blood pressure,” Nick said, holding his hand out for Karl to hopefully hold out his arm.

Karl rolled up the sleeve of his hoodie and stuck his arm out, occasionally glancing up at Nick.

Nick gently took his arm, wrapping it around and pumping it a few times. He took it off, recording it on his laptop and grabbing his stethoscope. “Could you- take your hoodie off? Just to see how your lungs are and stuff.”

“Yeah,” Karl said with a nod, pulling his hoodie off and setting it on his lap.

Nick checked his heartbeat, then moving it to his back. “Take a couple deep breaths, please.”

Karl nodded, doing what Nick said and taking deep breaths. He kept his arms crossed over his stomach, fidgeting with the fabric of his shirt in his fingers.

“Okay, thank you,” Nick said, stepping away and recording it on his laptop. “Now come over here and step up on the scale please,” he said softly, sitting down on his stool and moving away the small machine connected to the stool that showed how much he weighed away from Karl.

Karl exhaled shakily and nodded, standing and walking over to the scale. He slid his shoes off and stepped on it, staring at the wall and not at the numbers as they rose. He wrung his hands together, trying to hide the nervous shaking.

Nick noted the numbers, quickly turning the scale off before Karl could see them. “Alright, cool. You can take a seat while I grab the doctor. Okay?”

“Okay,” Karl said with a nod as he moved off the scale, going and sitting back down. “Uhm, Nick?”

“What’s up?” Nick asked absentmindedly, grabbing the clipboard and opening the door.

“Uhm, I- I’m sorry about my friends, at the block party,” Karl spoke softly, pulling his hoodie back on. “I didn’t know Alex would go off on you like that, I’m so sorry-“

“Yeah, it’s whatever,” Nick said, taking a few steps towards the hall.

“And, I- I really am sorry for breaking the photo,” Karl added, his voice shaking a little.
