Hazel’s expression softened. She crawled up next to him and laid back down in front of him, reaching for his hand. ‘Hey, are you okay? I’m not mad, promise, just confused.’
-
Theo noticed her reaching and blushed slightly- god he hoped she didn't notice- before taking her hand. "I'm sorry." He mumbled, looking up at her. "I'm making it sound like it's all your fault, and it's not."
-
Hazel noticed, but waved it off. She gently rubbed the back of his hand with her thumbs. ‘It’s okay,’ she said softly. ‘And you’re not, I promise. Is this about the texts I sent about Max?’
-
Theo nodded slightly. "Yeah. She got upset when I mentioned it, and said you liked me so then I showed her the texts to prove nothing was happening between us and..." He shrugged. "Yeah."
-
Hazel sighed, looking down at their hands. ‘I’m sorry. That sucks,’ she said quietly. ‘And she just broke up with you immediately after you proved I don’t like you?’
-
"She said something about me and you not being good for each other, and then I showed her the texts and she said you were trying to get my attention and make me jealous, and how I'm just dense when it comes to people liking me like that and then..." Theo didn't finish his sentence, letting go of her hand. He knew he'd regret saying it once he did.
-
Hazel looked back up at him, listening intently. ‘And then what?’ she asked softly.
-
Theo pulled as far away from her as he could in case she wanted to leave. "And then she said that she didn't think I was over you either." He said quietly, refusing to look her in the eyes.
-
Hazel didn’t respond for a moment. She fidgeted with her hands and got a text from Max that he’d be late. ‘A-And are you?’ she asked quietly.
-
Theo curled up tighter, figuring the silence was answer enough.
-
Hazel froze. She gently grabbed Theo’s hand again. ‘Theo?’ she said quietly. ‘I-I’m not mad at you. Can you answer me, please?’
-
Theo pulled his hand away. "I'm not over you." He muttered, looking at her for a moment to try and read her facial expression before looking away again. "I'm so, so sorry."
(aaand I gtg now, sorry!) -
(You’re all good!)
Hazel looked at him. She pursed her lips and looked down, trying to think of what to say. I’m not over you either, let’s get back together didn’t seem like a good response. ‘Don’t be sorry,’ she said softly. ‘You can’t control your emotions.’ -
Theo shook his head. "But I'm making everything awkward and weird."
-
‘You’re not, promise!’ Hazel said, trying to think of something to say. ‘I-I get it.’
