"Yeah, that's fine," Karl replied with a smile. "You better let me get some bunny cuddles, though. I miss having Bee around the shelter."
-
“Oh, totally,” Nick said with a chuckle, opening the crate n gently taking her out, cradling her against his chest. “Just give her a second.”
-
Karl nodded, admiring Nick with a lovesick smile, watching as he gently handled Bee. "Bee's such a sweetheart, isn't she?"
-
“Ohh, the sweetest,” Nick nodded with a smile, glancing over at Karl. “Do you wanna hold her now?”
-
"Yes please!" Karl said, giggling as he bade grabby hands towards Bee. "C'mere, cutie patootie~"
-
Nick giggled, gently taking bee and laying her onto Karl’s hands, making sure she was secure with him before retracting his hands.
-
Karl gently hugged Bee close, smiling. "Aw, I missed my snuggle buddy~" He giggled as Bee curled close to the brunette, nuzzling his neck. "I hope you're being a good girl for Nick, missy," he said, glancing over at Nick. "Don't be fooled by her cuteness, she can be a little trickster sometimes."
-
“Oh no, she’s been good so far,” Nick said with a grin, crossing his arms as he spoke. “But I dont deny that’s she’ll find some trouble soon.”
-
"Definitely," Karl replied, giggling and nodding. The door opened and two young boys walked in, one of them holding a shoe box with a towel and a bird inside. "Sir, we need your help!" One of the boys exclaimed, rushing up to the counter. He set the box on top, showing off the lying bird inside. "My bird got hurt, I think a cat got to him!" The other shouted, tears welling in his eyes. "Please, we need help!" Karl nodded, handing Bee back to Nick. "Let me get Dr. Kayden for you two, okay? Is it just you two?" He asked, walking around the counter. "No, his dad is coming," the first boy said, grabbing his friend's hand.
-
Nick frowned, taking Bee back and sitting up slightly in his seat as he heard the two boys talk.
-
"Please, you've gotta help him!" The other boy pleaded, starting to cry. His friend wrapped him in a hug, whispering something to him. "Hey, don't cry," Karl said with a gentle smile, crouching down to look at the boys. "We're gonna get him all fixed up, don't you worry." The door opened and an older man rushed in, breathing heavy. "Are you the dad?" The brunette asked and the man nodded, walking over to the boys. "Yeah. They ran all the way down here from the house, which I told them not to," he said, chuckling awkwardly. "Is there any way you could squeeze us in?" "Yeah, of course! Let me talk to Dr. Kayden," he said with a nod, standing and walking over to the clinic door. He opened it, looking in to see Kayden on her computer. "Hey, we've got a bit of an emergency out here," he said, gesturing for her to come out. The young boy kept crying, hugging his friend.
-
“Hey guys, it’s gonna be okay, I promise,” Nick said, walking over and crouching a little next to them. “Dr. Kayden is an amazing doctor and will get your bird all fixed up.”
-
"Really?" The crying boy asked, looking over at Nick with teary eyes. The father chuckled, nodding and crouching. "Yeah, bud, she's a great doctor. She'll get Twix all fixed up, trust me," he said, ruffling his son's hair. He sniffled and nodded, wiping his eyes. Karl walked over with Dr. Kayden, gesturing to the box. "So, y'all say a cat got to him?" She asked, picking up the box. "Yeah. The people next door to us have an outside cat that wanders into our yard, and I guess the boys wanted the bird to get out to spread his wings and- well, you can guess the rest," he said, running a hand through his hair. Kayden nodded, smiling. "Come on into the examination room and I'll check him out," she said, turning and walking. The boys and the father followed, heading into the room.
-
“Yeah, really,” Nick said with a nod, standing up again and watching with a little sad smile as they walked in with Dr. Kayden. Once they were gone, he turned to Karl. “Oh no, those poor kids.”
-
"I know," Karl muttered, crossing his arms over his chest. "Poor thing is hurt really bad, I- I'm not sure if he'll be okay..."
