"I'd study and do work nonstop only to wind up with barely acceptable grades and a non existent sleep schedule. Besides, I'm learning more by teleporting to other countries than listening to a lecture in geography.

Chester sighed, leaning his head back against the wall and watching his watch swing. ‘And in history? The worst grade you got this year was in the subject covering the history of the kingdom you could potentially rule one day.’

"You can just call me a failure already." Maeve muttered. "It's what you've been thinking this whole time."

‘I don’t think you’re a failure. I’m just worried.’

Maeve gave him a skeptical look.

‘Maeve, I’m supposed to be your caregiver. I’m supposed to scream at you and ground you or something.’

"You've already been screaming."

‘I’d hardly call that screaming:’

"Yelling, then." Maeve shrugged. "Same thing."

‘Fine, yelling,’ Chester said, putting his pocket watch away. He didn’t know how he was supposed to be a parent to her without her resenting him.

Maeve didn't resent him. She looked down, picking at her sleeve again.

‘Why don’t you tell me these things anymore?’

"You have enough going on, and I didn't want to bother you. Which clearly didn't work."

‘I never don’t have time for you, Maeve.’

Maeve didn't say anything, she just gave a small nod to show she was listening.
