Mildred nodded. 'Makes sense. But still, you've lived for, like, 200 years and have never seen a movie?'

"most undead haven't. The only undead I have known that saw movies were my brother and his fiancee." Jack said.

'You're missing out,' Mildred said, leaning back in her chair. 'How would your brother have seen a movie if they're not common here?'

"they used to sneak out to the movies during the day. I used to hear Alexander brag about it to his friends. He would completely change the topic whenever I got close." Jack said. He remembered how Alexander would always change from topics he didn't want jack to hear about by loudly announcing that he was there

Mildred frowned. ‘But Alexander was a vampire, right? How did he go out in the day without completely obliterating into dust or something?’

"that's the interesting thing about Alexander. He is a very special vampire. He has a rare genetic mutation allowing him to be out in the sunlight without so much as a rash. It's a very sought after trait, especially for a king. It is believed that it is the sign of a royal vampire that will lead the kingdom to prosperity like never before." Jack said

‘And did he?’ Mildred asked, looking at him curiously.

"yes actually. He revolutionized our entire system. He learned that, although it contained less nutrients, we vampires could sustain ourselves on rabbit blood instead of human blood which increases our life expectancy by hundreds and hundreds of years." Jack said. It truly only helped them that they could drink rabbits blood. It caused less live hunts to have to happen which meant the city would stay hidden

‘That’s amazing,’ Mildred said, resting her chin on the palms of her hands.

"yes, it even helped to shape our economy and it boosted prosperity heavily." Jack said as he finished his candy apple and grabbed another one.

Mildred nodded, looking at him with great interest. ‘Again, amazing. How did he do all that?’

"well, I asked him what a rabbit looked like before I went to bed one day, so Alexander decided to catch a rabbit for me. He quickly learned that catching a rabbit with your bare hands is far more difficult than he thought and by the time he caught it he was drained of energy. Figuring he had nothing to lose, he decided to drink the blood of the rabbit and he felt replenished. He decided to catch quite a few and give them out to see if they would help our constant thirst and lo and behold it worked like a dream." Jack said

‘That’s pretty cool,’ Mildred said, listening intently to what he was saying. She stretched her arms above her head, growing tired. ‘Amazing that a single rabbit could change so much for a kingdom.’

"yes, that rabbit was the best thing we could've asked for. It helped us so much that we had it taxidermied and now I keep it in my room to remind me of Alexander's genius." Jack said. Jack was happy to ramble about his brother.

‘You have a stuffed rabbit in your room?’ Mildred asked, wrinkling her nose. ‘But yeah, that’s amazing!’
