Mildred was in a state of panic. She tried to slow her breathing and sat up, hand on her chest. She took a few deep breaths. She'd never had such nightmares in the human town. Maybe it was the fact she could be killed or attacked at any time in this town; in the human town nobody payed any heed to a peasant.
-
"I saw it, I will not be able to venture out like Alexander did but I saw the sun. It hurt but it was beautiful Cain. I wish all of you could see it." Jack said. He remembered the blazing circle in the sky as it settled into the horizon. It was truly a marvel.
-
Mildred's thoughts turned to the horrible punishments the king would administer. The flogging, otherwise known as the cat-o'-nine-tails. The whips had nine knotted leather cords and often cut to the bone. It'd happened to her. She pulled up her sleeve and ran her forefinger along the scar and shuddered at the memory. She hadn't thought about it in a long time.
-
Cain helped jack change then he popped into the kitchen to grab some apples and oats for smokey. He decided to leave quicker rather than later as he saw Wilhelm was asleep.
-
The scar ran down the side of her forearm, so it was visible from the side. Images of the bloodiness crossed Mildred's mind. She winced and pulled the sleeve back down over the scar, and decided against sleeping for fear of another nightmare. She lay back down and stared up at the ceiling, pondering the Frederick situation. She decided the best outcome was that if she told Jack a search party would be sent around the castle, they'd find Frederick and he'd either be killed or imprisoned.
-
Jack walked down to the stables and smokey huffed. "Hello girl, I brought oats as a treat for you. I spoke to a dullahan at the party that said her horses particularly liked oats from across a river called Thames. I can't get you any oats from near rivers but I can bring you oats. I also brought apples." Jack said to smokey. He pet the horses mane but it shifted it's feet uneasily. It was scared of the brightness his skin had taken. "Don't worry smokey, it's called a sunburn apparently." He said to calm the horse
-
Mildred sighed and rolled over, curling herself into an almost-ball. She pulled the blanket up to her neck and closed her eyes, willing for a good dream, if any at all.
-
Jack fed smokey then set off. The edge of the forest always slightly glowed on account of being fae territory. Jack used to play near the forest until a rouge Fuath tried to steal him from the vampiric kingdom. Alexander nearly started a war because of that
-
Mildred didn't fall asleep for a while, but eventually fell into a light doze.
-
Jack collected the aloe vera and headed back. As he walked through town he waved to people. They were looking very worried. Mumbles of assassins and thieves echoed throughout the crowd. He could even here a mob threatening to form to attack whoever did that to him. He was happy he was this well liked but the violence was worrying
-
Mildred woke not to her nightmares, but to sudden hunger. It must've been about breakfast time. She rubbed her eyes and sat up slowly, glad to have gotten a little more than an hour of sleep.
-
Jack got back to the palace and decided to not eat breakfast today in lieu of spending more time with smokey. He also thought of heading down to the dungeons to check on Alexander and going to the library to look through books.
-
Mildred walked into the washroom and splashed water on her face. She then dried it with a towel and walked down to the library. 'Frederick?' she asked the room, once she'd closed the door and checked the library was empty. 'You in here, cocky weirdo?'
-
A giggle resounded throughout the library before he dropped from the ceiling. "I didn't know a peasant would talk about me like that. Have you made your decision yet Mildred?" Frederick asked smiling. Meanwhile jack walked up the stairs to retrieve his blood from the kitchen. When he got there Wilhelm was making a fuss in the kitchen. Apparently he'd made pancakes with syrup pockets and was waiting for jack and Mildred to try them all morning.
-
Mildred rolled her eyes at the peasant part. 'I haven't yet made a decision, no. What I was wondering is what would happen if I said no,' she said. 'And how'd you even get help there?' she added, looking up at the ceiling.
