"they grow wildly around the border of the kingdom but they've never been particularly useful." Jack said. He remembered Alexander brought one once and it was so unremarkable that Alexander went back out to get a better gift for him.
-
'They're very useful for easing the pain of sunburns,' Mildred said. 'I know a simple remedy.'
-
"I'll be sure to pick some up." Jack said before blowing on his red arms. It made it feel a little better. He touched his arm and realized it felt uncomfortably hot. He wished he could ask Wilhelm for some water.
-
'I can go fetch some,' Mildred said, still vexed with herself for not reading far enough in the book. If she had she could've told Jack to apply some sun lotion or the vampire equivalent. 'It looks like it hurts. Sorry about that.'
-
"you should rest." Jack said before smiling and then laughing. "I can't believe I've seen the sun. It sure didn't want to see me." Jack joked. The reddened skin hurts but the sun felt worth it
-
Mildred grinned. 'Yeah, I guess it didn't,' she said with a chuckle.
-
"I'll go get the aloe vera later after I'm properly dressed. It'll be nice for smokey to see the edge of the woods." Jack said.
-
'Alright. For now, I'll try and get a bit of sleep,' Mildred said, rubbing her now slightly drooped eyes. 'Wake me when you've fetched it?'
-
"goodnight. I'll wake you up later." Jack said. He walked into his room. He remembered the fear he felt when he saw the sun up.
-
Mildred watched him leave and then walked to her room. She washed her face and looked at herself in the mirror. She was almost unrecognizable to herself, the well-dressed girl looking back at her looked nothing like the scruffy one she was but a week ago.
-
Jack relaxed in his room for awhile finding an old kerosene lamp Alexander once gave him. Kerosene was rare so he never got to use it but whenever he did he used it to read. He heard a knock on the door and opened it this time to Cain who actively shrieked when he saw Jack's sunburn
-
Mildred smiled and dried off her face with a towel, then walked out of the washroom and lay down on her bed. All thoughts of Frederick disappeared, and she contently fell into sleep.
-
Cain was fraught with worry. "My lord! What happened to your skin!?" He shouted. "I found out something very interesting Cain. I SAW the sun. It did this to my skin." Jack said with whimsey laces through his voice. Cain looked furious but not at jack. "If I could kill that thing I would. Burning you, killing the king it's an evil hateful mess of fire!" Cain shouted in rage at the indifferent sleeping extraterrestrial body.
-
Mildred's dreamless sleep fell quickly to nightmares. The human king's punishments, the telegram, Frederick and a red eye rolling around. A horrible mix of the worst events of her life. The last thing she saw was the fear in Albert's eyes the last time she saw him, then she woke with her blanket scrunched up the end of the bed and her pillow drenched in sweat.
-
"it should be fine tomorrow Cain. Mildred said she knew of a way to treat this." Jack said. It was then that Cain actually realized and processed what jack said. "You saw the sun?" Cain asked
