"if you said no than jack would never be able to see me or his brother ever again. He'd be forever alone except for his horse and chef. Oh, you too I guess; unless of course, you left. I wouldn't blame you." Frederick said chosing not to answer the question about the rafters.
-
'That's it?' Mildred asked, frowning. 'I thought you were a criminal aristocrat or something. You don't seem the type to expect peasants to help people out of the goodness of their hearts.'
-
"i thought you peasants were all about that goodness of your hearts crap. I mean, jack could eventually decide to just drain you dry if he finds you boring. He reminds me of an old king in a story I read and that man stole all the unicorns." Frederick said. Frederick looked to the door and squinted before turning back to Mildred
-
Mildred frowned. 'Jack said you didn't even like books,' she said quietly. It's what he'd said when she had shown him the drawing in the book. 'But no matter. I still don't understand why you can't just take his eye like you did before if it's so important to you, but I guess everyone has their reasons. Pray tell, what did you do with his other eye?'
-
"I had that book read to me, it's somewhat entertaining. I can't take Jack's eye myself because I can't get that close to him and I already told you I gave his left eye to Alexander." Frederick said dismissively.
-
Mildred huffed. 'Well, how do you expect me to get that close to him?! I'm but a disgusting peasant,' she said, growing tired of this Bavlenca man already.
-
"you're not completely repulsive plus jack has been oh so lonely ever since I left. I'm sure with a bit of pushing you two will grow closer. After all if you don't prove to at least be close enough to see Alexander then jack might just kill you anyways when you stop being entertaining." Frederick said
-
'Pushing?' Mildred asked, narrowing her eyes at Frederick. 'Why don't I just ask if he'd want to use his eye to bring back Alexander and leave it at that? He can do it himself if he wants to, and if he doesn't he can keep his eye.' It seemed rational enough.
-
"are you aware of how ridiculous you sound? Also, you don't have a source so it'd be weird to trust that. I know I wouldn't." Frederick said
-
Mildred clenched her jaw. She thought about that for a moment. 'That's true,' she said, though she didn't want to admit it. After a pause she asked, 'What do you mean, "pushing"? How would you push someone to be be your friend?'
-
"you kinda have to bother Jack before he really gets close to you. Barge in while he's doing paperwork and interrupt his meals. Doing stuff like that makes him actually start to pay attention. You have to talk any chance you get or he'll gradually forget about you until by my guess you either get turned eaten or set loose." Frederick said.
-
Mildred frowned. 'Well, I suppose I'll give you my answer within the next six days,' she said, voice with a slightly cold. 'Goodbye for now, Bavlenca.'
She turned on her heel and walked towards the door. -
"see you later peasant." Frederick said before seemingly disappearing back up to the ceiling. Meanwhile jack decided to eat breakfast out of guilt. Wilhelm was happy to show off the special pancakes he called waffles. They were delicious but the iron mold Wilhelm had to use to make them worried jack
-
'You-' Mildred started, whirling around angrily. She looked around. Frederick was gone. Mildred huffed and left the library, deciding to go to the kitchen to see if there was any food left from breakfast.
