"am I going to die?" Jack asked. He was half ready to cry not knowing what was happening to him. He didn't know what to do about it.
-
Mildred would've laughed if not for the circumstances.
'Of course not,' she said. 'I've got the aloe vera remedy right here.' -
Jack calmed down and sat down. He fiddled with the peeling skin. "It won't make my skin fall off faster?" He asked, genuinely concerned
-
'No,' Mildred said. She sat in the seat closest to him. 'I've used the same recipe on myself many times. Unless vampires have a secret allergy to aloe vera, it'll be soothing.'
-
"we have shown no such allergies." Jack said. He remembered Alexander mentioning soothing effects. Cain watched wearily and strongly from the shadows
-
Mildred set the whisk down and held out her hand. 'Do you mind?' she asked, gesturing to the aloe vera in the bowl. 'Or would you rather do it yourself?'
-
Jack reluctantly stuck out his red arm towards Mildred. It was radiating the heat of a summer day like it absorbed the very energy of the sun. He felt itchy once more on the sunburn and shook his wrist.
-
Mildrd gave a small smile and held onto his hand to gently pull his arm forward. She tilted her head at the red skin, inspecting it, and smeared some aloe vera on her fingers. 'This might sting,' Mildred said, figuring she'd better warn him in advance. 'Or just feel really cold.' She gently rubbed some of the liquidy stuff on his arm, looking at him to see his reaction to it.
-
Jack's shoulders relaxed after the aloe vera touched his skin. It was like an ice pack. He closed his eye.
-
Mildred smiled and continued rubbing the aloe vera on the red and peeling parts of his arm until it was like a thin layer.
'It'll soak in in about 20 minutes,' she said. 'Are you burnt anywhere else?' -
"I don't feel the heat of the sun anywhere else. Thank you Mildred." Jack said. He looked at his arms that had already started to feel better. He wondered if Alexander ever got a sunburn
-
'It's fine,' Mildred said with a shrug, though was happy to be of service and it showed slightly on her face.
-
"in return for your help with my ailment, Wilhelm will make whatever you'd like for dinner." Jack said gesturing to Wilhelm who had peaked out of the kitchen
-
'Huh?' Mildred asked, glancing behind her at Wilhelm then back at Jack, looking confused. 'No, it's fine,' she said, though wasn't sure if it was rude or not.
-
"hmm, alright then." Jack said. He then sat back down. People usually wanted rewards for help they deployed. It was odd to him. He looked at the last bite of the waffles and rang the bell. "I must get to work now, I'll see you later Mildred." Jack said
