Theo walked in the room slowly. "Hazel, I would never want to break up." He murmured. "There's no reason to- no girl either. Your dad, he walked in on us and said he wanted to talk to me, and said this stuff about the time change and how he knew that we wagged, and that I wasn't a good influence on you and told me to just... I'm so sorry that I said anything about breaking up." He sighed.
-
Hazel looked at him, tears in her eyes. She wiped them away furiously. ‘Really?’ she mumbled, looking back down. ‘f---, we should’ve never done that.’
-
"He hated me before any of that." Theo muttered, but he nodded. He saw the tears in her eyes and sighed. "Can I sit down next to you?"
-
Hazel nodded, avoiding his gaze and shuffling to make room for him. She hugged herself.
-
Theo hugged her as he sat down. "You can tell me if I need to stop. If you still hate me. I understand if you do." And he really did. He wouldn't know if he could even believe himself if the roles were reversed.
-
Hazel whimpered, leaning into his touch. ‘I don’t hate you. And I didn’t before. I-I just-‘ she cut herself off, wrapping her arms around him.
-
Theo held her tight. "-Feel betrayed?" He assumed, trying to find the right words.
-
Hazel nodded, burying her face in his chest. She didn’t say anything.
-
Theo sighed, kissing the top of her head. "I'll do whatever it takes to earn your trust back. I mean, I don't have much time if we want to it in person, but either way, I want to."
-
Hazel nodded again, leaning into his touch. ‘I want you to as well. Are you… are you mad at me for getting so mad?’
-
"No. It was deserved. If anything, I'm mad at myself."
-
Hazel pulled herself closer to him. ‘What did Dad say? When he wanted to break us up?’ she mumbled, voice muffled by Theo’s shirt.
-
"He told me he heard about us wagging, and that I was a bad influence on you, and something about you acting up since I've come here..." He kept his voice quiet at the part with her acting up. He was thinking out loud as he said it, and almost immediately wanted to take it back, knowing her reaction wouldn't be great.
-
Hazel frowned. She looked up at him, resting her chin on his chest. ‘I haven’t been acting up!’ she argued, her irritation not directed at Theo. ‘And you’re not a bad influence!’
-
Theo nodded. "I know you haven't! And thank you, I hope I'm not."
