Hazel huffed, burying her face back into his chest. ‘God, why does he have to do this? I get being mad about me wagging, but why is he taking it out on you!’
-
"Because. I'm guessing you've never wagged until yesterday? It gives him something easy to blame. She has a new boyfriend, and now she's ditching class and breaking rules, therefore it's the boyfriends fault and not my daughters." Theo shrugged.
-
Hazel sighed, wrapping her arms tighter around him. 'I hate that you have a point. But it was only once! And I'm finished my project for art!' she said. 'And I was the one who suggested it, anyway!'
-
"I know, stop yelling at me." Theo said softly.
-
Hazel sighed softly. 'Sorry,' she mumbled, burying her face in his shirt. 'You didn't deserve that.'
-
"It's fine. Look, we can still text each other. That's a silver lining, right?" Theo's voice sounded flimsy and weak.
-
'It's not the same. I might not even see you for years!' Hazel said, voice shaky.
-
"Hey, I'll try as hard as possible to see you earlier, I promise." Theo sighed. "Well, does your dad go through your texts?"
-
Hazel shook her head. 'Not often. Like, rarely,' she said quietly.
-
"Then maybe we could still be together? Unless you don't want to risk it, which I don't blame you..."
-
'I do still want to be with you,' Hazel mumbled, pulling herself closer to him.
-
Theo nodded. "I want the same, but I don't want your dad to try and break us up again."
-
'He'll never know,' Hazel said, looking up at him, tears in her eyes. 'Please.'
-
Theo nodded, holding her tight. "Of course. Whatever you want."
-
Hazel let him, burying her face back in his shirt. 'Thank you.'
