‘Interesting.’ Collins said, thinking. Why would the the creator leave in the first place?

"I don't know but they had this huge party for it for some reason. Everyone wore black and looked at pictures of him and ate food. Then they all left at the same time carrying a black box." Florence said.

Collins looked down at the ground. She’d been to that kind of party before. ‘Florence… I don’t think the creator is coming back,’ she said quietly.

"yes he will. He HAS to come back. He wouldn't just leave me." Florence said. He mimicked Collins' sneeze from earlier.

‘Florence, you have to listen to me,’ Collins said softly. ‘He won’t. I’m sorry.’

"he will." Florence said standing up. His feathers had puffed up as he stood. His eyes were red. He did not like this debate.

‘I’m sure he’d want to,’ Collins said. She hated breaking this kind of news to him but she knew it was horrible hoping forever. Wishing never worked, it only added to all the pain. ‘But he doesn’t have a choice.’

"he has to come back for me. He will come back for me. Why else would he leave in the first place?" Florence said. He mimicked the growling of a dog. He was at full height now.

Collins winced. Maybe she shouldn’t tell him. But he had to know. ‘He can’t. He would, but it’s not up to him.’

"he's a grown man! He has agency over his own actions!" Florence shouted. He was getting mad. He mimicked the metallic shriek of the door.

Collins sighed. She looked away. ‘Never mind. Forget I said anything,’ she mumbled, not wanting to anger him.

Florence got back down. It was aware there was a chance of its creator not returning, but it would not accept that possibility yet.

Collins looked up at Florence. It was very unfortunate. It was horrible wishing, hoping, praying for something that would never, ever happen.

"now, it's late. I think I want to go to sleep." Florence said. He laid back down on the floor, folding his wings.

‘Ok. I probably should too,’ Collins said, laying down next to him.
