Collins winced at the scraping sound, hands instinctively moving to her ears. ‘Please don’t mimic that sound again,’ Collins said with a nervous sound. Her skin prickled with goosebumps.

"okay." Florence said. He instead mimicked Collins' nervous chuckle. He then stretched out his wings before neatly folding them behind his back and walking in all six to edge of the hole and laying down.

Collins giggled lightly and followed after Florence. She sat next to him on the ground and checked her bag for food. She had two pieces of fruit and half a peanut butter sandwich. She held out a mandarin to Florence, offering it to him.

He took the mandarin with one set of hands and bit into it like an apple. He mimicked Collins' laugh then mimicked the sound of the orange.

Collins chuckled again. ‘You’re supposed to peel off the skin, not bite into it,’ she said, grabbing out a banana for herself.

"but it's so good, it's not as sweet as the rest of it but it's full with flavor and moisture." Florence said. He did however start peeling off sections of the peel to eat separately from the orange.

Collins frowned slightly. ‘It is?’ she said, confused. M

"yes, the flavor is similar to the taste of rust." Florence said. He mimicked the sound of rusty nails hitting the ground

‘What does rust taste like?’ Collins asked curiously.

"kind of like how this room smells." Florence said. The room smelled acutely of mold and soggy newspapers.

Collins took a large deep breath, then immediately regretting it. She had a coughing fit before she could talk again. ‘That’s horrid,’ she said with a slightly croaky voice.

"it used to smell like this orange, but it faded into this after the researchers left." Florence said. He then mimicked Collins' coughing.

‘Why did they leave, again?’ Collins asked, then sneezed.

"well, after the creator left, the assistant researcher gained the name head researcher. A few people left because they didn't like that, but most left because of the other experiments. They got scared when the creator left." Florence said
