Collins didn't speak, and watched the creature curiously.
-
Florence puffed up his chest and his arms seemed to grow. Eventually the creature rolled away. Florence made his roar one more time before folding his wings back up.
-
'Can I speak now?' Collins whispered, hands clasped together under her chin.
-
"quietly." Florence said. He mimicked a piano for emphasis. He remembered the classes some junior researchers would give him on music theory. Piano meant quiet and pianissimo meant very quiet. That researcher brought many instruments.
-
Collins nodded, smiling at the music pun. Her parents had made her play instruments at a very young age, so she knew what it meant.
-
Florence started mimicking one of his favorite musical instruments that researcher brought. It was small and shiny. The researcher called it a kalimba. He played a few of the sweet twinkly notes. He loved messing with the kalimba when it was still there. He remembered crying when it was broken by a careless younger experiment
-
Collins stepped out from behind him, looking for any other creatures that may want to kill them.
'Shall we continue?' she asked Florence quietly. -
"can't explore long.......... need to be back........... Before the creator." Florence said. He opened the door carefully with his hands to glance down the hallway. He mimicked a light dinner bell. This always was the sign to go back to your room.
-
'Alright,' Collins responded, fiddling with the torch in her hands. She shone it in front of her, looking for any creatures.
-
There was nothing currently in the halls. Florence mimicked the sound of ruckus that used to come from the halls. The researchers used to be so noisy. He only remembered being annoyed by it when he had music classes.
-
Collins glanced at Florence, a confused expression on her face as she listened to the strange sound he made.
'So,' she said, keeping her voice low, 'What kinda... animal are you?' She didn't like referring to him as an animal, but it sounded better than "creature" or "experiment". -
It frowned. "I am no....... animal......... I'm an experiment......... I was created artificially........ Without a mother or father......... The only one of my kind." Florence said. It mimicked the sound of gears turning as it tested the concrete floor for stability.
-
'That's pretty cool,' Collins said. 'Why were you created?'
-
"save...... Something." Florence said. He looked through windowed rooms. Some would make his hair stand on end others would make him shrink. He mimicked the sound of a viola
-
'To save something?' Collins repeated. 'Do you know what?'
