Heart shaped box
Thread Topic: Heart shaped box

Florence made a sound similar to nails on a chalkboard each time a shard of glass was removed but noted how the pain ceased after each one. He watched half mystified half terrified as Collins pulled glass out of his hand. He used his unoccupied set of hands to open the heart shaped box and play the lullaby. It would dull the pain
-
Collins managed to pick out what she thought was most of the glass and glanced back up at Florence. One down, three to go.
'Are you OK?' -
"hurts... Less." Florence said. He turned to the side to sit out a glob of silver blood that he'd chewed out of his hand earlier. He flexed his fingers on the hand that was now free of glass and happily flapped his wings when it didn't hurt as bad. There was still some glass but it was more manageable to him. He smiled at Collins hoping she'd remove more of the glass. It reminded him of a time his creators bottles broke. When he picked those up there was a similar pain accompanied by a stinging in his nails. His creator removed the glass and scolded him
-
'That's good,' Collins said with a smile.
-
Florence held out his red hand, cocking his head to the other side. He listened to the music from the heart shaped box and started to mimic the gentle melody in sync with the box.
-
Collin took his other hand and started picking out the glass. After a few minutes she finished and let go of his hand.
-
"thank you." Florence said clearly. He knew some phrases very well. His creator taught him please and thank you, also hi and hello. He was also told he could not say words that were dubbed profanities. He bent his fingers and mimicked the sound of a trumpet.
-
Collins let out a small chuckle at the trumpet sound. 'You're welcome. Are your.. other hands hurt too?'
-
"all.... Hurt..... Stepped in glass...." Florence said. He held up the other two hands. One hand had a whole needle stuck in the hand at an angle. Stepped in glass was one term his creator specified for incidents. There was also caught fire, slipped, cut foot and of course leak in building. He still remembered when the pipes burst and his eyes were hit directly with running water. It was a bad day
-
'Goodness,' Collins said, taking one of his other hands. 'You're clumsy, aren't you?' she said with a small smile, not unkindly as she continued to pick out the glass.
She wasn't exactly a doctor, but her dad was and she'd seen him help her smaller cousins when they came over. They were allowed outside. -
"needed.... To find...... The heart." Florence said. He looked at the box still playing the lullaby. It was the only thing that could make him feel calm in the whole world. He mimicked the song in violin.
-
'The box?' Collins said, glancing at the wooden music box. 'The lullaby is very pretty.'
-
"it's...... My lullaby..... This is..... My heart....." Florence said. Holding the music box higher with his other set of arms. He carefully traced the engravings with his nails. He knew what each one meant. All of it was significant to him.
-
'Your heart?' Collins asked, not quite understanding. 'Your... metaphorical heart?' She looked back to his hand and traced a line in his palm with her index finger before continuing to pick out the glass.
-
"my....... Heart...... That's what....... He said...." Florence said. The creator said those words so long ago it felt like an illusion. "It's your heart Florence, don't lose it." He mimicked the voice heard so long ago. It was an exact replica right down to the very light northern accent. It had perfected the mimicking of the creators voice when the creator still talked to it
