Florence walked through the stairwell, opting to fly passively over the stairs rather than touch the spiderweb of cracks in the stairs. The stairwell smelled rusty. It was uncomfortably warm.
-
Collins laid awake, staring at the ceiling.
-
Florence stepped into the old living quarters for the scientists. It was always uncomfortable here. He walked into the creator's room. There was already something there. He figured there would be since he opened the door. Everything around there was good at sniffing out the creator. He wandered into a different room and curled up on the soft bed. He was surprised it wasn't taken.
-
Collins rubbed her eyes shifted positions. She eventually fell asleep.
-
Florence fell asleep on the cushy bed, hoping no other creature would attempt to steal it.
-
The next morning, Collins woke up early. She was too tired, so she went back to sleep, and at a more reasonable time she got up and got dressed, packed food in her satchel and left the apartment.
-
Florence woke up to a raspy laugh. It bolted out of bed and looked around. The laugh turned into a growl. Then they spoke. "Oh pity... it's one... of us. It sleeps... In the room of our... Oppressors." The creature said. Florence spotted it in the dim doorway. It was lumpy and misshapen. It's skin seemed to fold several times culminating in a very wrinkly face. "They... They weren't all bad. They could've been one of the creator's friends." Florence said.
-
Collins walked down the sidewalk, sticking her hands in her pockets. She walked into the hospital, turning on her torch to scare the rats away. She walked up the stairs, careful to keep an eye out for dangerous creatures.
-
The halls echoed Collins' footsteps in an eerie silence. Florence watched the creature as it laughed that raspy laugh again. "They... Were all bad... All except him." The creature said. Florence didn't like the creature. It seemed to stare right through him.
-
Collins didn’t like the silence. She walked up to Florence’s room, but when he wasn’t there, she took another turn down the hallway to look for him.
-
Florence stood up and got off of the bed. The creature did not move from the door. "You... Disgust me... They were... Evil... They... Hurt us... Yet you forgive so many... Of those wretches." The creature said. It stepped away heavily, slowly.
-
Collins heard talking. She walked towards the noises, brows furrowing.
-
Florence watched the creature walk away. He scratched his wings. Talking to them made him itchy. It was frightening in many ways. He understood why they disliked some scientists, but what the talking ones did was... Frightening to Florence.
-
Collins looked around, walking down the hallway. ‘Florence?’ she called.
-
Florence's feathers stood on end when he heard a faint voice from below. The creature perked up. "A... Visitor?" The creature said sinisterly. Florence's eyes widened. His claws dug into the floor. he mimicked a loud fire alarm. The creature hurried towards the stairs and Florence flew into action.
