Collins nodded. ‘That kind of makes sense, actually. Some of the other experiments don’t seem so kind.’
-
"most of them don't talk normally, but the junior researchers told me that the others that were really like me tried to attack them, claiming they knew what happened to them. Do you think they knew they used to be humans?" Florence asked. He folded up his wings.
-
‘I don’t know. But it could’ve been possible that some memories from their human life could’ve been remembered,’ Collins said, licking her ice cream. ‘I don’t know how it works, though.’
-
"maybe. I think I would be friendly even with my memories though." Florence said. He mimicked the clambering of a garbage truck.
-
'Okay. Maybe they were just angry, then,' Collins said, biting into her cone.
-
"I don't know. I don't have those memories for real, just feelings. Memories of the bad feelings tell me what are bad." Florence said.
-
Collins nodded thoughtfully. ‘What do your feelings tell you is bad, then?’
-
"things like guns, war, rotten food, the assistant researcher and of course coffee." Florence said. He flexed his wings and mimicked the clicking of keys
-
‘I don’t like coffee either. It makes me way too anxious,’ Collins said. ‘The assistant researcher is strange. I wonder what made him so cruel.’
-
Florence shrugged. "I think he's always been a trash faced jerk. That's why I feel like he's bad." Florence said. He mimicked the beeping sound of a garbage truck a few streets away.
-
‘He is a jerk. A very big jerk,’ Collins said, wiping the melting ice cream onto her jeans. ‘People usually aren’t jerks for no reason, though. Maybe his parents sucked.’
-
"I don't know. Maybe, but I don't think just because he had bully parents that he should get to bully everyone else." Florence said. He nodded his head in reassurance to his own words and mimicked an applause.
-
‘I agree. People shouldn’t be mean to other people. But sometimes they are, and there’s nothing much we can do about it,’ Collins said.
-
"I mean, we could be mean back, I've seen lots of people do that at the lab. I don't like it though. It seems like whenever everyone gets mean, being nice gets way harder because everyone's being mean." Florence said.
-
‘People don’t like being nice to mean people. I think they think being mean back will stop them from being mean, but it only makes things worse,’ Collins said, finishing off her ice cream.
