"I don't know how it'd make me feel." Florence said. He flexed his wings out. Blocking most of the room from his peripheral vision
-
‘Okay,’ Collins said, picking at a thread on her jeans.
-
"well, um... I guess I should tell you anyways. Maybe it would tell you how much better it is when the creator's here. Y'know the pit behind me?" Florence said. He held one of his sets of hands together, keeping his knees caged
-
‘Yeah?’ Collins said, glancing at the pit, then back at Florence.
-
"it used to be filled with... Well, it looked like soda, but it wasn't soda. If we didn't participate in the experiments or if we made the assistant researcher mad somehow they'd lead us in here. They'd stick us in a cage, and then..." Florence paused. His eyes welled up with tears, preparing himself for the memory. "They'd stick us in the soda. It would burn our skin. It made me itchy. It melted my skin off. It killed some of us experiments. We could only hope we got out in time." Florence said. He gripped his knees, his claws drew blood.
-
‘Oh,’ Collins said quietly. She grabbed one of his hands and moved it away from his leg so he wouldn’t hurt himself further. ‘That’s horrible. I’m so sorry.’
-
"it's fine. All the bad stuff will stop when the creator comes back. It has to. Who else would save us." Florence said. There was hope and fear plastered on his face. Florence needed that hope. He wasn't sure what to do without it
-
Collins sighed. She knew the creator wasn’t coming back, but she couldn’t crush that hope. ‘If you’re sure.’
-
"but yeah. That's the vat. It's also why I don't like looking at it." Florence said. He started popping his knuckles one by one.
-
‘Fair enough,’ Collins said, watching him for a moment, then looking behind her at the vat.
-
The vat looked like an Olympic swimming pool except for 2 small features, one, it was ten feet deep. Two, the pool seemed to be coated with metal. Florence mimicked a hissing and bubbling sound you'd expect to hear from a witch's cauldron
-
Collins glanced back at Florence. 'Do you think the assistant researcher is gonna come back again?’
-
"probably. He shows up every once in awhile to try to get us to do more tests. The others chase him off... Or we all just hide in the hospital rooms." Florence said. He mimicked the sound of the broken sliding door forcing itself open
-
‘But why? Like; what’s the point of doing those tests if the hospital is closed down and a majority of the machines are broken?’
-
"I think... He just likes to see us suffer." Florence said. There was no way to sugarcoat it. The assistant researcher was more of a monster to Florence than the creature who wanted to murder his friend. Riley has a reason to be mad, obsidian had nothing.
