Javas turned around quick when he heard a voice. "Aria? What are you doing here of all places?" Javas asked
-
Aria shrugged. She squeezed his hand comfortingly. She never knew where he lived before he before he ran away but she assumed this was the place.
-
He hung his head. "This is ground zero." Javas said staring at the window. It looked like a painting. It was unreal. He put his hand against the glass and looked at the entertainment center, it was covered in papers and McDonald's toys
-
Aria gave a small smile.
-
Javas stared through the window. It was too much of his home. He punched the window. It was a bad idea but it was too much to see it so unchanged despite everything that happened to him.
-
She wanted to comfort him, but she didn't know what to say, and even if she did she didn't speak much. Instead she put her hand on his shoulder and muttered quietly "It'll be okay"
-
"it's not though." Javas said as he sunk to the floor in front of the window. His head hung down in disbelief. The sorrow here almost physically held him down. It was right here he lost his first tooth and inside of this building he had his first birthday. In that living room he was his family's first Christmas tree. This house was his life just a few years ago and he could never go back through no fault of his own. He wanted to cry but he knew someone was there to see it. He refused to budge.
-
Aria took a deep breath.."I know it's not, your standing outside your own house. Why did you leave Javas? What happened at home? You, you could always go back if you wanted too"
-
"I. Can't. Go. Back." Javas said gritting his teeth. He was trying his hardest not to cry. There was no way to go back and it wasn't even his choice. "It's still like this because they haven't been able to clear the house. This house doesn't belong to anyone anymore." His voice wavered. He bit the inside of his cheek to stop the tears.
-
Aria sighed. "I'm sorry, I'm terrible at speaking" she could tell he wanted some privacy. She gave his hand a quick comforting squeeze and retreated down the stairs and up the path.
-
He sobbed. His life was on a spiral that would never recover no matter how long he sat here at this window. He decided not to just stand there. He checked his pockets and after a few dozen pieces of lint he found the old key. It still fit perfectly into the door. Opening it felt like looking through a portal. The tears suddenly felt cold on his face from the sheer shock.
-
Aria didn't go back to the alleyway, she waited for Javas. She assumed his was crying, anyone would and he didn't want her or see him when he was most vulnerable. Instead she thought of her own home. She used to live in a small poxy flat up on the council estate. She didn't care much for it but she missed her Dad a little even though she was slapped at home.
-
Javas walked through the house as tears rolled down his face even further. He looked around, touching the furniture and items just to assure this was real. He walked towards the rooms. His parents were lucky to have a good 2 bedroom apartment. He wanted to see the rooms. Even touching the doorknobs made him feel like this apartment was a ghost.
-
Aria sat at the bottom of the stairs wondering when Javas would return. She wondered if he would actually go back. Then she thought of something. She knew he wanted privacy but she thought of something that could save all of the street kids. She ran up the stairs. Then her face dropped, she saw how upset being here would make him, her idea wouldn't work.
-
Javas opened the door to his parents room and sobbed louder than he had for a really long time. He hadn't sobbed so loud since the day he was born as he ran towards the familiar queen sized bed he'd crawled into for so many years when he had nightmares or a thunderstorm rolled around. He jumped onto the bed and hugged the pillows like they were his parents, sobbing like he did the day it finally hit him that they were gone. When he looked at the walls all he saw was the family he'd never see again.
