“Well if you insist, I guess I’ll live.” Eli faked sounding reluctant.

'Thank goodness,' Callum exclaimed with exaggerated relief.

“But only if you finish the story…..” Eli bartered.

'I'll finish it when I find out what happens,' Callum said, thinking.

“Booooo.”

'Pfft,' Callum scoffed. 'I'm close.'

“Good, I’m dying to hear how it ends.”

Callum didn't respond, only squinted up at the ceiling. 'I've got it!'

“Let’s go!” Eli said excitedly. “What happens?”

'Well, the escapologist was so nice that he didn't blame the stepsister for what happened. He even invited her to live in his house and help her raise the little girl. But she was nothing but cruel to her, and would beat the child every night when the escapologist was away.'

“No!” Eli whispered the next part. “What kinda b---- does that to a kid?!”

'The stepsister, apparently,' Callum shrugged. 'When the escapologist found out what happened, he was furious. He tucked his daughter in her bed at night and promised to make the stepsister stop her cruelty, at whatever cost.'

“So he kicked her out of the house, and reported her to the police, right?!”

'The escapologist marched up to the stepsister's room in a fit of fury. But... that was the last the little girl ever saw of her father.'

“You can’t kill off BOTH of the parents!” Eli protested.
