Echo jogged to catch up with Heatg, before falling into step next to him. 'How long till we get there?' she asked again.

"if i told you, then this little road trip wouldn't be as fun, now would it?" he elbows her playfully and keeps on walking, silently waiting for her to get more talkative -
(DAMN IT)
Echo frowned at him and then looked back in front of her, not responding. She fiddled with the strap of her leather bag as they walked, avoiding conversation at all costs. -
one eternity later
"you tired yet?" Heath asked, sitting down on a conveniently placed rock and taking a package out of his backpack -
'No,' Echo lied, still standing. Her legs ached and her feet were incredibly sore, but she did her best not to show it.

"come sit. you should have worn better shoes." he pats the space next to him on the rock, then opens the package to reveal FOOD. (yum, had to put that in caps bc i'm hungry lol, haven't eaten in a whole 2 hours)

'These are the only shoes I have,' Echo said, her tone remaining cold. Nevertheless, she sat down next to him. -
(hours, not days, i was being dramatic)
"well, we can get you some shoes in the next town we hit. i may have snagged someones gold pocket watch just slightly before we left..." he holds out a bread roll and an apple to Echo, "here, eat, we have a lot more walking to do." -
Echo glanced down at the food and took the bread roll, breaking it in half to check for some kind of poison inside. It seemed fine to eat, so she reluctantly took a bite.

"if i wanted to kill you, it wouldn't have been by poison. i'm bigger and stronger than you, i could easily have you dead." he gives a dangerous look, just to freak her out a bit, but then returns to his normal sort of goofy look

Echo narrowed her eyes and him, but decided against arguing and continued to eat. 'Right,' she said coldly, 'I'll keep that in mind.'

"i'm just saying." Heath stands up after somehow shoving an entire bread roll in his mouth, "shall we go? i believe there is a town fairly close by"

Echo finished her roll and wiped are hands on her skirt, before also standing up. 'Alright,' she said, not looking at Heath. -
(i'm back, only for a few posts tho bc i have to go with my mother to pick up my father and brothers from boy scout camp)
after what seems like forever, and the sky gets fairly dark, Heath and Echo finally arrive at the town. "where do you want to go? we can get you new shoes tomorrow if you're too tired, there's an inn right over there." Heath points to an old-looking building, it was probably repurposed or renovated. "the gold nugget hotel." (bc it's probably around the time of the gold rush)
