Just under an hour later, Amira and her family had a plain slice of bread each. It had been very difficult to get one slice, never mind three! Amira managed to trade her bracelet to one of the teenagers for two slices. It was steel silver, a present from her best friend. The third slice was a lot easier, thankfully. One of the older woman took pity on her, thinking her too skinny and pleaded she had their slice. She had been very grateful, then returned to their mattress.

“What do you want to do today?” Kai asked Aaron. “Maybe hang out with those kids you hung out with yesterday?”
Aaron shook his head. “They were cool, but I don’t want to hang out with them today.”
Kai nodded. “So what do you want to do instead?”
“I want to get out of here.” Aaron said quietly. -
Amira chewed on her bread silently, staring into the distance, thinking about Syria. Not too long later Andrea tapped her shoulder. "Amira, I'm going to find your Dad. Go see when we're leaving this place, look after Dali for me. I should be back in ten minutes" she whispered hurriedly.
"Okay, are we going to Turkey Mum?" Amira asked excitedly.
Andrea sighed, looking like she would cry. She nodded, then mouthed. 'but not like a holiday' before rushing off to the male block. -
“Well we can’t leave yet.” Kai said, looking at the floor. “We need to wait just a bit longer.”
Aaron groaned. “I’ll try and find those kids again. To pass the time.”
Kai nodded, getting up. “I’m coming with you.” -
"Hey Dali" Amira forced a smile, lifting her little sister up and placing her on her lap. "You alright?"
Dalia clung to Amira clutching her teddy in one hand. "I'm hungy!" she cried and, as if on cue, her stomach rumbled.
Amira sighed hugging Dalia. "You can finish mine, I'm not very hungry" she lied for the benefit of her sister.
Dalia smiled taking the three-quarter eaten slice of bread and biting into it. "Thank you Ami!" -
“You don’t have to come.” Aaron said, getting up.
“I know, but I want to. I want to make sure you’re safe.”
Aaron nodded, trying to look reluctant to want Kai coming along with him, but Kai knew that his brother was secretly happy about it. -
Amira sat with Dalia onto her lap until her Mother returned. She was frowning, tears sliding down her face. Amira put Dalia down on the mattress and rushed to Andrea's side. "Mum, what is it?"
Andrea hugged Amira. "You leave on Wednesday"
Amira frowned. "What do you mean? You mean we right?"
Andrea shook her head. "Abdul thinks it's best if we stay behind for now, we'll find you in England though. Dalia is too young to travel alone and we can't expect you to look after her, plus we only have enough to send one person"
Amira bit her lip. "Then I'll wait till everyone can come"
"No Amira, you are leaving on a stealthy boat in two days" Andrea insisted. It was the most she'd talked since they'd arrived here. -
Kao watched his brother hang out with the kids, making sure nothing bad happened to him.
-
Amira choked back tears and reluctantly nodded sitting down on the mattress. "Ana Asif on Ami" Andrea stated, meaning I'm sorry, in Syrian.
"Walaw" Amira dismissed giving Dalia a hug.
"I'm going to turkey in two days!" she forced a grin and tried to sound excited.
"Tuky!" Dalia screamed. -
Nooo! You disappeared 😭😭😭
-
(I’m back😂)
Kai noticed a couple other adults watching the kids, and walked up towards them.
“I’m guessing these are your kids?” He said, looking at one of the adults, and they nodded, pointing at one of them.
“That’s my boy, Beau.” -
The day seemed to go really quickly for Amira. Before she knew it, it was 6pm and a man, wearing a similar outfit to the one who directed them here entered. In one hand he held a tray full of bread and in the other a large wallet. "£5 per slice" he grouched approaching the old woman who had given Amira her slice.
-
I pointed to my brother. “That’s Aaron, my little brother.” I said, and they nodded.
“Where are your parents?” She asked cautiously, and I looked down. -
Andrea looked at Amira and passed her a £10 note. "For you and Dali" she sighed pointing at each of them.
Amira took the money, planning to give her mother her slice. She went up to the man, paid him and took two slices. She passed one to Dali, then ripped one in half for her and Andrea to share.
"Thank you Ami" Andrea smiled. -
“They’re still in Syria.” Kai said, answering the adults question. “I um, I had to leave without them.” He wiped his eyes with his sleeve.
