Nat sighed, and slowly shook her head, refusing to look him in the eye. She wasn't sure what it was, but loud noises like the school bells caused her to have anxiety attacks.

Nik kneeled down slightly so he could look her in the eye.
“It’s ok,” he said softly. “I get panic attacks too.” Granted it has nothing to do with loud noises and a lot more to do with his family, but he still understood what it was like. -
Natsuki looked up at him with a look of disbelief on her face. She then gave a small smile to him and her shoulders relaxed a bit.

Nikolai smiled as he saw Nat relax slightly.
“We could get you noise canceling headphones if you want?” He suggested. He had no idea how he could save up for it, but he still wanted to help. -
Natsuki shook her head slightly, still smiling. She pulled out her phone and opened the notes app and wrote, 'Wanna come to my house after school?', then held it out for him to see.

Nikolai’s smile got even bigger. “I’d love that!” He said. “Do we just walk to your house?”

Natsuki nodded, putting her phone back in her pocket. She lead Nik to the school exit and out into the town. All the buildings were old and the paint was chipped, except for the school. There wasn't exactly a pathway, just a dirt ground that wound around town.

Nik walked with her, still smiling.
“Your parents are ok with this?” He asked nervously. If he ever had someone over, which was close to never, he had to tell them days in advance, but it didn’t even look like Nat texted anyone to tell them she brought a friend. -
Nat glanced down, pursing her lips, but didn't answer. For a moment she wondered if Nik would understand "They're not here" in sign language, but she knew he wouldn't.

Nikolai didn’t understand what she signed, but saw she was upset.
“I said something wrong, didn’t I?” He said quietly. “I’m sorry.” -
Natsuki shook her head, and figured her big brother could tell Nik what had happened. They soon got to her house, a two story house with chipped light blue paint and a nice verandah. She opened the door with her key and held it open for Nik.

Nikolai entered the house, and heard a voice call out. “Who is it?” A little girl ran to the door.
“It’s Nat and her friend!” She said exitedly. -
Ming's little arms wrapped around Natsuki's waist, and she grinned up at her big sister.
'Nat hasn't had a friend over before!' she exclaimed, her smile growing wider. Natsuki picked up the toddler and threw her over her shoulder, walking into the kitchen and gestured for Nikolai to follow her. -
(not literally THROWING her over her shoulder, carrying her 🤣)
