"Really?" Tessa looked at Jacob in surprise. He didn't seem like the...flowery type. Always cold and closed off. "Which ones?"
-
Jacob averted his eyes away from her, his face flushed. He looked… embarrassed. Coughing awkwardly into his fist, he leaned down and brushed his hand against one of the beautiful flowers. A rose, to be specific.
"Roses and dandelions are my all time favorites.” Jacob mumbled. -
Tessa smiled. "They've grown beautifully," she said. "Most people consider dandelions a weed, though, but I'm assuming you're like me and don't feel that way."
-
Jacob's eyes softened exponentially. The way he looked at his flowers was equivalent to the way a mother looks at her own child.
“I agree with you. They are much more than some random weed, and they say that the myth behind them isn’t really that much of a myth after all.” -
She looked away from the flowers and up at him. "What myth?" she asked in curiosity. "The wishing flower thing?"
-
"Yes, that. I've found many times that when I wish upon a dandelion, my deepest desires always come true.” Jacob plucked one of the dandelions from the ground and sheepishly handed it to Tessa. “Here, make a wish.”
-
Tessa carefully took the white flower and looked at it, wondering what out of the many things she wanted she should wish for. Eventually she decided on one and blew, every single fluffy seed floating forward in the wind.
-
Jacob put his hands inside of the pocket of his elegant jacket, eagerly watching the dandelion seeds fluttering away in the wind. He smiled at the beautiful sight. This would be a memory he'd keep for life.
“I’m not going to ask you what you wished for, but I do hope to say that it’ll come true.” Jacob stated. -
"I hope so too," Tessa whispered. For the other kids at the orphanage to be okay when she came back. That was what she had wished for. But she had a feeling this would be one wish that wouldn't come true. She was scared for them. She wasn't there to protect them.
-
“The people who live in this manor are incredibly lucky people,” Jacob informed her. “I’m positive your wish will come true.”
-
"I'm not exactly a resident here, though," Tessa mumbled. "I'm just visiting for a little bit. Then I'll be leaving. And then we'll see if my wish came true."
-
“Even though you’re just visiting for a little while, perhaps our luck will rub off on you, no?”
-
Tessa let out a short chuckle. "Maybe," she said. "So you don't think your father is going to adopt me, do you."
-
Jacob offered her a sympathetic smile.
“I’m sorry, but I have to be honest with you. I don’t think he’ll adopt you, but that doesn’t mean someone else won’t.” -
"No one has in the past sixteen years. I doubt it would suddenly start now," Tessa said with a shrug. Then with a smile. "Besides, one week of bliss can last me a lifetime."
