"I have a brother," Coraline said bitterly. "I'm sure the two are very happy together."

"They won't be if your uncle gets what he wants."

Coraline ran her fingers through her hair, a telltale sign that she was stressed out. "Why would my uncle want to kill my family? You'd think they'd be on the same side."
(What if Coraline's family are heirs to something really important and the uncle is trying to get them out of the way so Coraline can get it? And then he'd probably kill or imprison her so he could take it from her) -

Harlow shrugged. "I'm just a hitman." -

Coraline's fists clenched and unclenched as she struggled with her own mind. She finally looked at Harlow with a defeated expression. "Take me to them." -
Harlow blinked. "You're sure?"

"Yes," Coraline said with firm resolve. "I may not care for my mother, but the boy does not deserve to die."

"You have a strange affection for your brother, yet you haven't met him," Harlow commented.

"He's innocent," Coraline said defensively. "I would do it even if we weren't kin."

Harlow nodded. "Fine," he said.

Coraline ran her fingers along the seemingly perfectly smooth wooden wall. She must have found a crack because she pulled up and revealed a secret compartment with an emergency pack and Harlow's weapons. Her uncle had always taught her to prepare.
"Your weapons," she said, setting a few of them down on the table. "I see no need for you to carry them all." -
"I prefer to," Harlow said as he stuck a shotgun in his pocket.

"I can imagine," Coraline said, strapping weapons onto her belt and hiding a dagger down each boot. "But given the circumstances, I'd be perfectly happy to assist you with them."
The message was clear: She didn't trust Harlow enough to let him walk around fully-armed with all of his toys. -
Harlow stared at her for a moment before he pulled out a few items, knives, daggers, guns, and the like, and set them on the coffee table in front of him for her to take.
