"Do you have any proof that you aren't a criminal?" Coraline said, placing her hands on the headrest of her chair and gripping it tightly for support.

"Like what?" Harlow asked, spreading his arms for emphasis.

"I don't know! Anything!" Coraline said helplessly. "Some sort of-of document or something."

"Well do you have any proof that you aren't a criminal?" Harlow asked, making a point.

"Oh, very clever," Coraline said in a tone dripping with sarcasm. "I do, actually. A perfectly clean record."

"Well I have no record," Harlow said, "so no one can judge if it's clean or not."

"Nonsense," Coraline said. "Where are you from?"

"I've lived in so many countries it's impossible to say," Harlow said. Indeed, his voice had a mixture of various accents

Coraline was positively confounded. Out of all the people in the world, the ex-assassin that used to work for uncle just HAD to land in her backyard. Lovely. The only questions now was this: what was she going to do about it? It was starting to get dark outside and she had a stranger in her house.
Coraline sighed reluctantly in defeat. "I'll make us some dinner and then you can tell me all about yourself. And I do mean all," she said, sweeping off to go make them some victuals. -
Harlow shrugged. He seemed to have nothing to hide from the girl. He just sat there on the couch awaiting Coraline to finish in the kitchen.
