The man groaned. Good. That meant he could still feel and that he was, to a certain extent, somewhat conscious. She kicked the door open and set him down on the couch as gently as she could, using a cloth to wipe beads of sweat and water away from his forehead.
She warmed up some water and dunked the cloth in, taking off his shirt to look at his wounds. There was a time when she had felt indecent when taking off another's shirt, but she had gotten over it a while ago. Manners don't quite matter as much when someone is dying. -
(I sort of almost imagine him being like Westley from Princess bride)
Harlow's mind was going through the things thst had gotten him into this situation. He tried to think up things he could have done differently, but the fact was that he couldn't have done anything differently that would have changed the outcome, so he paid it no mind. -
Well now I can't see him as anything else lol))
Coraline popped open her first aid pack and got to work. She cringed as she pulled out tweezers. Like it or not, she would have to get the bullet out. Carefully, using one arm to hold him steady, she managed to clamp the metal tool around it and pull it out. She could only imagine how painful it must have been. -
(XD I'm just imagining what he'll say when he wakes up)
Harlow was the type of person who lived in the moment, not caring much about what happened in the future and caring even less about what had happened in the past. He had no regrets. -
Oh my goodness XD))
After cleaning the grime off of him, dabbing ointment on his injuries and wrapping then up, Caroline fell back into a chair with a deep sigh. She went to make herself a strong cup of coffee, feeling like she'd run a marathon. -
(Gonna skip like 5-10 minutes)
Harlow woke up. He wanted to sit up, but that would cause him pain and he really wasn't in the mood for that. He peered at a girl in an armchair with a cup of coffee in her hands. These three questions were the ones that came out of his mouth.
"Who are you?"
"Whose house am I in?"
"Where are my shoes?" -
Ye ye))
Oh my goodness, Christmas would have a heart attack lol))
"Firstly, I'm Coraline, the person who just saved your life. Secondly, you're in my house. Thirdly...you really care about your shoes more than the fact that you have a hole in your chest?" she said, before shaking her head. "They're over there in the corner." -
(XDD)
"It's how I tell if someone's lying to me or not," Harlow said as he slowly sat up. "Throws them off. Of course, it does depend on how good of a liar they are." -
Coraline sipped her coffee, which was so hot and so strong that it sent shivers down her spine. She raised her eyebrows at Harlow. "So are you going to explain how you ended up face-first in a pond with a bullet in your chest?"
-
"Straight for the explanation, not even going to ask my name, huh?" Harlow chuckled.
-
Coraline couldn't help but smile a little. "I'd rather know what you are than who you are, first."
-
"Unfortunately for you, that is none of your business," he said. "But I suppose now that you've seen my face I'll have to kill you, won't I?"
-
"That tells me a lot, actually," Coraline said, calmly sipping her coffee as she recalled ridding the man of his weapons. "So I'm assuming that you're some sort of ungrateful hitman that's gotten on the bad side of someone powerful. Would I be correct?"
-
Harlow peered at her and reached in his jacket for his gun. He looked in the direction of his pocket when he found that it wasn't there. "Smart move on your part," he said, taking his hand back out of his pocket. "Now where did you put them?"
-
Coraline let out a sharp laugh. "You and I both know that I'm not dumb enough to tell you. I saved your life, so you owe me, hitman."
