C1 is an assassin/mercenary. He's been saving his money from being an assassin so that he can live a well-off life without any killing.
One day he gets a job from a man that wants top of the line for the job, and C1 is a perfect fit.
But C1 has enough money to live comfortably, and so instead of doing the job he takes the money and runs off.
Well the man who hired C1 is obviously angry, plus C1 had found out some not-so-good information about him. He wants C1 dead. So he sends some assassins to kill C1.
In an assassination attempt C1 was terribly injured.
C2 finds him in a horrifyingly weak state, takes him home and nurses him back to health. The two of them eventually fall in love, but (plot twist) C2's uncle was the one that originally hired and tried to kill C1. -

Harlow ran towards the pond. Sure, being in water didn't make him a hundred percent safe, but it was safer than the situation he was in at the moment.
Just as he was about ready to leap into the water he heard a gunshot and felt a sudden burst of pain. He fell limp to the ground, half in the water half out. -
One of the more cocky hunters went to shoot at Harlow again, but another held him back. "He's dead, man! Let's get out of here now, someone's gonna come."
Coraline had jumped when she heard a gunshot, diving under the table as she trembled from head to toe. When silence rippled across the area, she cracked the door open and let out a choked and horrified gasp. There was a man in the pond nearby, bleeding out into the water!
She forced herself to walk over and take his pulse. Her heart fluttered as she felt the weakened, but steady beating. He was alive. Coraline pulled him up with a groan, carrying him to her house. It would be a little easier if he weren't so waterlogged. -
Harlow gave a low moan as he was being picked up. He wasn't dead but he did fall unconscious.
