Nathan perched on the counter. "And a demon is a demon!" he said cheerfully.

"Agreed," Megan said. "But a monkey is different than a person."

"Is cake done?" Nathan asked, his head tilting down to check.

"The timer hasn't gone off yet," Megan reminded him.

"When will it go off?" Nathan said, impatiently tapping his fingers.

Kenna looked at it. "In twenty more minutes."

Nathan counted on his hands. "I run out of hands!" he said, surprised. "Twenty is a lot."

"Not really," Megan said.

"Oh wait," Nathan said, counting on his toes, which he controlled as easily as fingers. "Twenty."

"Mhmm," Megan said.

"Twenty is still a lot," Nathan protested, rolling over and looking at his hands and feet.

"In some cases," Megan agreed.

"Like briefcases?" Nathan asked.

"I'm curious to know how you don't know what a fork is, and yet you know what a briefcase is," Megan said.
