"I mean, our old base HAS blown up," Kate commented. "Which is my fault, of course. So we'll be needing a new one."

Myriad made a noise of understanding then stood up. "We could take control of another group?"

"You know," Kate said. "That's not a bad idea."

Myriad tilted his head"it isnt?

"Mmhmm," Kate said. "We could do it! What about the, uh, new group in town, perhaps?"

Myriad nodded "ok

Kate felt a newfound confidence, like she could do anything. She popped the cap off of a pen and whipped out a notebook, scribbling down plans.

Myriad watched her silently

"How would we go about claiming leadership?" Kate said, tapping her pen against her chin.

Myriad tilted his head "we?

"Yes, we," Kate said. "Why, would you prefer something else?"

He just stared at her, seeming uncertain and confused

Suddenly, a group of tough looking people approached them. "Hey, look at these wimps," one of them jeered.

A blank expression fell over Myriads face and he calmly turned to face them. "Would you like to take care of the, Miss?" He said tilting his head to look at her

"With pleasure," Kate said in a rather unnerving voice. "Shall I save a few for you?"
