"What's wrong?" Jonathan asked. Unless he just made it a habit to frown for no apparent reason, something was wrong.

"We are being followed." Captain said quietly, just loud enough for Jonathan to hear

Jonathan didn't look around to try and find who was following them. Doing otherwise would show whoever it was that they knew they were being followed. It could also communicate to the follower that they were panicked, which might give them confidence in what they were doing. "Where?" he asked as quietly as Captain had.

"In the trees, maybe 15-20 feet back" Captain said, pulling his gaze away from the trees

Jonathan raised his eyebrows. That was remarkable close. He wondered who or what was following them, considering that hardly anyone knew about the shards. And if it wasn't about the shards, it was probably bandits, or something like that. "What do you want us to do about it?" he asked.

Captain got a distant look on his face. Then after a few seconds he answered "nothing for now. Erratum is busy, so i cant have him kill them for us.

Jonathan nodded and looked forward. They'd just have to wait, then.

Captain tilted his head slightly and then abrubtly stopped his horse, reaching over in a quick motion to stop Jonathan just in time to stop him from being crushed by a tree. The skullkim snarled and looked around as he heard laughing

Jonathan pulled back the reins when Captain stopped him. "Thanks," he said. Then he turned towards the source of the laughing.

Captain held tight on the reigns of his horse as several humans and humanoid canines emerged from the forest

Jonathan wasn't completely sure what was going on, but he grabbed the handle of his sword just in case. And held Dagger steady

Captain formed a short sword in his hand as the group started circling

Jonathan unsheathed his sword. He waited for something to happen, or one of the men to act.

The men started drawing their weapons and Captain struck, leaping off his horse and landing on one of them
