Jonathan used some of it and got a fire started.

Erratum finished breaking up the wood and then flew off

"What is he?" Jonathan asked purely out if curiosity as he finished making the fire.

"Erratum?" Captain responded as he said down, crossing his legs under himself

"Yes," Jonathan said. "In all my years, which I must admit aren't very many, I've never seen anything like him. Or you, for that matter."

Captain tilted his head a little "Erratum is a Hyzanilk. A small one, sure, but still a Hyzanilk." He said

"A Hyzanilk?" Jonathan said, having a little bit of trouble pronouncing the word.

Captain made a low rattling sound. "Yes. They are a race of highly diverse creatures created by Vale to serve as his army. No two Hyzanilk look the same, except at the begining of their lives" he explained, his voice sounding strange

"Huh," Jonathan said. He was extrememly curious about this whole world that he had only ever heard few very quiet whispers about.

Captain tilted his head at him, giving him a strange look

"The only reason I know the shards exist is because of my father," Jonathan explained. "He was also a mercenary. He'd come home with wild tales of various jobs he'd done. He mentioned them only once. Almost with a tone of fear in his voice. I thought nothing of it until now."

Captain went still, his eyelights darkening "is that so. What was his name.

Jonathan looked at him. "Hanson," he said.

Captain made a rumbling sound, looking thoughtfull "what happened to him.

"I don't know," he replied. "One day he just didn't come home. I guess I just assumed the worst, that he was dead."
