"We've died once already.. and I'm sure these forms are temporary too. The council doesn't care about us, and I don't trust Androni at all," Joti replies to Azariah as she casually dodges Faris trying to throw kicks at her.
"Anyways, back to you lovebirds," Joti points at Faris and Ethelyn. "You're both fighting experts. You're both unsympathetic and ruthless. You're both party poopers. I could go on," She says. Joti fails to dodge one of Faris's kicks and she stumbles and falls into a bush. -
Eldgrimr said "Still, I'd like to know the thought process when picking who to go. Could they not have picked those that would rather not fight and get the mission over with instead?"
-
"We are NOT lovebirds!" Ethelyn screeches, agitated.
Azariah looks to the others, sighing. "If these forms are temporary, then perhaps we should make our main focus finishing this before we all cease to exist. We may as well make a valiant attempt to make our deaths meaningful."
"We've already been through this, Eld-whatever. The Council of b----es decided to randomly pick whoever, with no regard to our feelings or lives," Ethelyn rants. "You better get over it now. Nothing will change." -
"Wow. I'm sensing a lot of pent up negative energy here, we should all hold hands and sing kumbaya," Joti suggests sarcastically from the underneath the bush. She was a little miffed that no one came to her aid when she fell, but Joti supposed that it made sense because this was the rockiest team she'd ever joined.
Faris slows down his walk, and then eventually stops altogether. "You guys hear that?" Faris asks. He uses his heightened sense of hearing to listen closely around them. Unmistakingly he hears the sound of the crunch of a twig- someone was trailing them! If it took Faris this long to notice then said someone was skilled at staying hidden. "Someone's following us," Faris whispers. -
Eldgrimr was about to be annoyed and correct Ethelyn but as soon as Faris said someone may be following them, he stayed quiet to hear it. Luwanna looked around and pulled out her hammer at the ready.
-
Azariah tightened the grip on their staff. Knowing that the group needed to pretend like they didn't know, the Sanguinem continued on their inspiring ramble, hoping that the others would get the hint and still get ready for potential combat. "Joti, I'm being serious. And you ought to be as well. This is essentially another life and death situation, one where we actually have some form of control."
Ethelyn fell silent, drowning out Azariah's talking to focus on their surroundings. She felt a bit dumb, having not noticed that they were being followed. She was grateful that Faris had caught on, though. She sneakily patted her hips down, sighing in relief when she felt her weapons were still there. That was at least some form of comfort in an unfamiliar place. -
(I have some art prepared for a... future encounter that'll happen. Just letting you guys know, it's about to get exciting ;))
Joti looks at Azariah in confusion. "Are we still talking about that after faris wheel just sa-" Faris steps on Joti's foot, which makes her exclaim "Ouch! What the hell?" Faris knew what Azariah was trying to do, he put a hand on his holster in preparation for a possible battle, then spoke like nothing was wrong.
"Another life and death situation indeed. We should be prepared for anything, who knows what we could encounter in this forest," Fairs says as he slows his walk to see if the thing following them would do the same. It doesn't, it actually speeds up. "Be prepared," he whispers. -
(I look forward to seeing it.)
Eldgrimr pulls out his scythe and gets ready for whatever. Luwanna stayed close to the group and stood her ground. Who knew what was about to come out and it was time to fight it. -
(Same here! So excited)
Azariah pretends to look ahead, knowing very well that the stalker is just behind him. They are nervous, in part because they do not know who-- or what-- is following them. If anything were to happen to the other group members, they would not be able to forgive themselves.
Ethelyn slowly moves off to the side, into the shadows and away from Azariah's light source. She looks behind the group, trying to see if she can spot what is following them. She carefully draws out her double-edged blade, crouching and positioning to attack. -
(Exciting? Pfft you should be terrified)
A scratchy and old voice spoke from inside the brush, "Stand down warriors. I mean not harm," The voice said.
"Who the Nether are you and why are you following us?" Joti asks threateningly. Her wounds from her fingers earlier had not fully healed, so her hands had blood claws and she looked ready to pounce like a tiger.
"Come out to face us. We cannot trust a foe we cannot see," Faris said, a lot more calmly than Joti did. He surveyed his surroundings, taking note of which places would give him an advantage and which parts of the environment could be utilized as weapons if he lost his gun and knife. "I shall then, but warriors must promise not harm me," The voice replied. -
(No, now I'm even more excited)
Eldgrimr put his scythe away and Luwanna put her hammer back. She said "Okay, who or what are you?" -
(again, same, LOL)
Ethelyn holds her position, not trusting whoever was in the bush. Her instincts want her to attack, though she has a sinking feeling that the rest of the group will stand down.
Azariah looks to Joti and Ethelyn, knowing very well that those two are the most likely to ignore orders and attack. "We promise," the Sanguinem says, hinting to those two that they need to put their weapons away. "So long as you do not harm us." -
Joti lowers her hands, but Faris keeps his hand near his holster just in case.
"I promise not to harm warriors..." The voice said before revealing himself. He stepped out of the forest and onto the crude and ever-declining path. It was not an infernum at all, but a ghoul. He resembled a wendigo from human legends, albeit he was pitch black and hunched over, with the support of a walking stick.
"Unholy shìt! What? I've never heard of a ghoul that can talk, how in the netherworld-!" Joti exclaims when she sees him. Faris simply tightens his grip on his holster and frowns at this whole situation. -
Eldgrimr was surprised at the ghoul. He never knew any of them could talk. He just thought they were mindless. Luwanna asked "How are you able to talk to us?"
-
Even Azariah, who is normally unphased by events, is surprised by who-- or rather, what-- comes out of the bush. They study the ghoul, inhaling deeply. They knew the others have already asked questions, but they feel inclined to ask one as well. "Why are you coming to us?"
At the word 'ghoul', Ethelyn holds her breath, definitely ready to attack. She can't believe that her teammates are asking the ghoul questions, rather than killing it!
