"But why me?" Azariah questioned, finally turning to look at the man beside them. "How did you choose?"
"It was simply a lottery, and you were the one," Fir said.
"What if it had been you? What would you do?" They asked, slowly rising.
Fir was taken aback by this. "Well.. That would be unlikely. They wouldn't kill a Council member."
"Well, I had assumed I would live forever. But here we are. How long will it take until they need to send someone like you away?"
Fir started to feel uneasy. The sanguinem had a point--
The mortem finally whipped out a necklace that had the magic capability that would hinder both of their magical capabilities. Almost immediately, he felt more confident again, more in control of the situation.
"You sneaky b------," Fir said, stepping a few feet backward and pulling out his blade. "You were trying to sway my mood."
"I'd consider it clever, really," Azariah said, narrowing his eyes and trying to focus. "I'm just shocked you figured it out.."
Ethelyn yelped as she was sent back onto the ground. Her wounds and bruises from the blast of the bomb sent pain rippling through her body. She dropped her blade from the shock. At the sound of him calling for back up, she cursed, struggling to grab for her dagger. "f--- you," she hissed angrily, glaring at him. "Bringing two to a fight when you've already been using ranged weapons? Coward!" -

Faris was sure that he would have to get his whole hand cut off later, but he didn't care. He was a perfect soldier, nothing mattered but the mission. Adrenaline was coursing through him, no doubt numbing the pain. "I'm no coward. My loyalties lie with the counsel," Faris replies. He knew that he shouldn't converse with the target, but he couldn't let her get away with calling him a coward. "Enna!" Faris calls again, wondering why his brother was taking so long. His wrist started to sting, he was starting to really feel the wound now. Not to mention blood loss.. his blood was a desaturated red, it was leaking out of his wrist like a faucet. He wouldn't be able to hold her down for much longer.
Hornet expertly tosses his sword into the air, catches it, and then runs toward Joti with no warning. Joti blocks the attack with her bloody bladed arm, locking Hornet's sword in it. In one motion she moves her arm and tosses the sword aside, disarming Hornet. She tsks. "Too easy," Joti says. Hornet smiles. "I haven't been afraid in so long, well done," Hornet says as he claps. He then kicks Joti square in the chest, also with no warning. He was a master at surprise attacks. Joti didn't block it in time so she falls down hard with a thump, all the air knocking out of her. -
Mishel grabbed Elgrimr's soul ball and said "All that trouble and I finally did my mission. Now to get it to the Ignis trials and the other counsel members." She then walked off with it to her destination.
-
Fir studied Azariah, trying to decide if the necklace's power was truly working or not. When he saw that the sanguinem wasn't even looking in the right direction, he relaxed, moving closer to his target.
"I am sorry, Azariah, but there is no getting out of this," Fir said, tightening the grip on his sword hilt. He circled around them, his eyes instinctively locking onto the back of Azariah's neck.
"Liar," they hissed, trying to follow the sound of Fir's voice. Fir continued to circle them, taking a step back each time Azariah swung his hands towards him.
"You cannot control fate," Fir retorted, finally raising his sword. "I hope you will find the will to forgive me."
With those words, the mortem suddenly jabbed his sword through the back of Azariah's throat, using all of his strength to push the blade entirely through.
"Council?" Ethelyn wheezed, her fingertips just inches away from her dagger. "Your loyalty.. It means nothing to me.." When she finally felt her fingers brush the hilt, she used all of her might to drag herself forward despite his grasp on her. A hint of a smile twitched on her lips. "When it comes to the battlefield.. Only your strength matters!" She grabbed onto the dagger and sliced at him the best she could, aiming for Faris's exposed throat. -
Faris tried dodge the blow, but he just couldn't react fast enough. The girl got a clear cut on his throat, just as his brother decided to show up, landing on the ground like a crow ready to hunt its prey. "En.." Faris tries to say, but he instead coughs out blood. "You aren't healing," Enna says with a slightly nervous tone, "You're going to die soon. I'll grant you mercy so it you don't bleed out slowly and painfully." Enna raises his sword at his brother. "I don't... wanna... d..." Faris coughs out, right before Enna stabs him straight in the heart. Enna walks over and steps on Ethelyn's hand, the one that was holding the dagger, and he does the same to her. Their bodies lay limp, but a few seconds later two blue orbs start to float from the corpses. Enna takes their souls and carries them gently in his balled fist; he wasn't authorized to know the mortem incantation for trapping souls into objects. He begins his walk to the Ignis Trials.
Hornet tsks as he puts a foot on Joti's chest. "Too easy," he says, mocking what she said mere moments before. He outstretches an arm and uses his control of metal to make his sword fly swiftly back into his hand. He wastes no time in lunging the sword into her chest. But, it didn't seem to be sinking in. "I'm hardening my blood, you fucķer," Joti says with a devilish grin, "You won't cut anything vital." Hornet frowns and tightens his grip on the sword. "Is that a challenge? Love those," he says. Hornet puts his full weight into pushing the sword down, he steps all over Joti without seeming to care. Anytime Joti tries to raise an arm to push him off he would step on it. Joti eventually starts to scream as the sword slowly but surely dug into her heart.
...
Androni takes a sip of from her mug. No one really knew what it was filled with. The best guesses were either tea, coffee, or beer. A clock hang in the meeting room, and the ticking reverberated through the otherwise silent area. This "assignment" was taking the rest of the council members longer than she'd expected. In better years she could've done the tasks with her hands behind her back and still have it be finished quicker. -
Mishel and Adelaide finally made it back to Androni with Eldgrimr and Luwanna's souls. Mishel said "I better get some good pay for this. This SOB was the hardest yet."
-
Fir tugged his blade out of Azariah's throat, carefully tucking the necklace away and looking for a cloth. He wiped the blood from his sword as a little orb of light floated out of the sanguinem's body. He then pulled out a small pocket watch. It was not his usual soul-collecting item, but he had chosen to carry light; he was expecting Azariah to be a bit harder to kill. It was fortunate that he had been granted the magic-suppressing necklace.
Fir whispered the spell to bind Azariah's soul to the pocket watch. He smiled as he watched the orb get sucked into the watch, the light seeming to illuminate the object. "You will be out soon," he said, gently holding the watch in his hands and taking off towards the the Ignis Trials. "This is only temporary. I do not wish to accidentally lose you.." -
Enna was almost to the trials by now, but on the way he notices Fir and jogs a bit to walk beside him. "How was the it? Did the necklace work?" Enna asks. The council members knew it was an unsure thing, the magic for it was experimental at best. Plus, Enna would talk about anything to set his mind at ease about the fact that he had probably just jeopardized the mission by accidentally getting Faris killed.
Joti had two options: drop the blood hardening and die quickly, or be tortured for about a minute. She didn't want to die though. Her mind racked for something, anything she could do. Joti screamed as a sudden increase in pain indicated that Hornet had hit a bad spot. Joti got desperate, she used her nails to scratch small cuts into her upper thigh, and then she used her power to seize the blood coming out. That only made her lose focus on her heart area though, so Hornet got the sword down another inch and Joti screamed again in response. "Listen kid, I'm not sadist type. You're only making this hard for yourself." Hornet says. Joti's vision started to get spotty. "No.. Jack.. help me.. Mom... I'm sorry...." she rasped out, but then she was unconscious. Hornet's sword immediately pierced cleanly through the rest of her chest.
"Hello to you too, Mishel," Androni greets the ignis woman as she enters the meeting room. Androni takes another sip from her mug. "Pay can be discussed after everyone gets here. And then I'll finally explain why killing these people can stop the trap door... I'm sure you have many questions." -
Mishel said "I'm just annoyed. He wouldn't sit still and let me kill him. I like a challenge but striking and retreating is not a tactic. It's being a coward." Adelaide said "At least you got him now."
-
Fir had been lost in thought, and as such, he did not hear Enna approach. However, he did not seem phased when he heard the other Infernum speak. "It wasn't as bad as I was expecting," Fir replied, staring down at the pocket watch in his hands. "Azariah seemed to know that I was coming for them, but.. They did not know what to expect. And the necklace did work. It made it much easier to get the job done." He looked over at Enna, laughing. "I think I'd be the last one to the party if the magic hadn't kicked in!" Fir then nodded towards Enna's hands. "Did you get the Perderent girl easily? I heard that she is rather slippery."
-
"I suppose that she was a bit slippery, things certainly didn't go as expected..." Enna replies with a contemplative frown. They finally made it to the building and made sure no one was looking before slipping off into a secret side entrance to go down to the meeting room. Mishel, Adelaide, and Androni were already there. Enna elbows Fir lightly. "You had nothing to worry about, looks like Hornet's gonna be last. How ironic after all that complaining about how easy this was gonna be." Enna says.
Hornet impatiently grabs Joti's soul just as it left her body. He then sped to the Ignis building as quickly as he could (which was pretty damn fast for a perderent). When he entered the room, it looked like Fir and Enna had also just entered. "Speak of the devil," Enna says. "Oh Enna, babe, you flatter me," Hornet replies coolly. Enna glares at Hornet and says, "If I could flip you off I would.."
"It looks like everyone made it back without too much trouble," Androni interjects before things could escalate. "Come and set the souls down on the table and I'll say an incantation to put them into their normal soul forms." -
Mishel and Adelaide put Eldgrimr and Luwanna's soul's on the table, ready for the incantation.
-
Fir noticed Emma's frown, but he didn't feel inclined to ask about it; especially not when Hornet entered, seemingly just as Emma spoke of him. He struggled to keep himself from laughing at their aggressive exchange. He was extremely grateful for Androni's interjection; Fir was not too good at calming others down.
Fir approached the table with the pocket watch, giving Mishel and Adelaide a tight nod in greeting as he passed them. He gently laid the watch down and stepped back so Enna and Hornet could set their souls down easily. -
(Omg, emma xD I knew this would happen eventually lol! Here's a picture I drew of Androni)
Hornet roughly set down Joti's soul, slamming it on the table uncaringly. Enna gulped nervously before opening his cupped hands and gently setting the two souls down. The room seemed to go quiet.
After a moment of silence, Androni said, "Care to explain this, Enna?" Enna looked down in shame. "Well, my brother and I were going after the girl-" he started. "So you told your brother about this top secret mission." Androni says with a raised eyebrow. "...Yes. But it's okay, since he was the one that died. It's not like he can tell anyone now, right?"
Androni put her hands on her face in annoyance and sighs. "Fine. Fine. Good job on silencing him, I suppose. I'll have to have a word with you later though, in private. For now, we can work with this." Androni stands up and lifts her hands over the souls. "Ascendit iterum... Mens et corpus.. Ambulare... Sentire... Facti sunt verae!" She chants this three times. On the third one, her palms and eyes begin to glow, and the souls begin morphing and getting bigger.
