Azariah was settled on the ground outside, their eyes closed and their body relaxed. They had been in this position for quite some time that day. A smile crossed their face, and they tilted their head up slightly, basking in the warmth of the sun. How odd, they thought, that I would choose to remain here and not look at my favorite sights before.. They opened their eyes, glancing at their surroundings.
Ethelyn picked up her blade, holding it up in the light. It was coated in semi-dried blood. She wrinkled her nose and slowly lowered her arm, holding it tenderly in her hands. "That was messy," she said out loud. "I'm not usually that messy.." She shoved her free hand into a pinch at the side of her hip, feeling for a cloth or something that she could use to try and get the blood off of her prized weapon. -
"The other members of the council are already near their target. Our perderent is nearby, her name is Ethelyn. Let's go," Enna said commandingly. Enna turned around, but Faris grabbed onto his arm.
"Permission to speak freely?" Faris asks.
"Granted," Enna says with an impatient sigh.
"How were they chosen?" Faris asks.
"Worried about morals, little brother?" Enna ruffles Faris's hair, "Don't worry, it was all random. For all we know, it could've been you as the tenebris we'd have to kill." Faris nods at this, then they take their leave.
"I'm gonna teeelllll," Jack taunts with a laugh, "What is this? Your 3rd soul this week? You know your mom wants you at the ignis trials to watch her judge and whatnot!" Jack says.
"And why aren't you at the ignis trials, in the ignis seats, watching all bright-eyed like the rest of our kingdom's children?" Joti retorts. "Touchè," Jack says, still invisible, hiding somewhere. -
Eldgrimr soon saw the tell-tale trail of the soul and followed it. He soon found it looking forlorn at it's fading reflection in a lake. Eldgrimr took off one of his bottles and uncorked it. He set it down and teleported to the other side of the lake to scare the soul. It worked and the soul went right over the bottle, got sucked into it and became trapped. Eldgrimr recorked the bottle and said "Sorry, but it was for your own good."

Azariah slowly pushed themself up, slowly rising. They dusted their cloak off as they stood. When they had cleaned themselves up enough, they began to walk forward, their hands folded behind their back. They could sense the presence of another being in the clearing; however, they chose to ignore this and continued to walk.
She found a dirty handkerchief after a moment of searching. She didn't recognize it— must have belonged to one of her victims. She began to wipe at the blade, swaying side to side as she did so. It had been a rather uneventful day so far. She hoped that her next victim would prove to be more of a challenge, though that was unlikely considering how swift she was. -
Faris and his brother quietly but quickly get to their destination, but they slow down when they're a mile or so away from Ethelyn. Faris was just following behind his brother, he didn't have exact details of where she was or how they would get to her.
"The thing you've gotta be most worried about is her sight and her speed. You can bet if we get too close and try to ambush her it won't work, so we're sticking way back for now. The main reason I've brought you along is to help me subdue her, you technically shouldn't know about this mission at all," Enna explains to Faris. "Thank you for trusting me brother, but what is the plan exactly?" Faris asks. "I'll fly above her, and you engage in combat with her. When the oppurtunity arises I'll swoop down and get a good hit in that should take her down. Wear this," Enna hands Faris a mask. Enna puts on his own mask too. It didn't have as much coverage as Faris's mask, though Faris supposed that Enna wouldn't need it, being on the council and having a high status and all.
"..M..My.. daughter.." the woman says. "Oh, you still here?" Joti lets go of the soul, and she scurries away quickly.
Jack suddenly appears in front of Joti, but Joti didn't even flinch, she was used to it since his ignis element was visibility. "Why can't you use your power for funnier things?" Joti asks him. "Yeah, like what?" Jack counters. "I dunno, how about making a mortem's mask disappear- oh! Or making someone's clothes invisible," Joti suggests with a smirk. Jack gives Joti a once over, "Ew, no thanks," Jack says as he fake gags. "Jerk!" Joti says as she shoves Jack, both of them giggling. Little did they know that around the corner of the alley someone was waiting for Joti to be alone.
(Before the next post is made: go to the side thread, I'm about to make a post about which council member is murdering who and what types of masks they have on) -
Eldgrimr walked on with the dead soul, intending to give it to Ignis trials. He knew it was a bad idea to keep more than one soul at any one time. He already had one soul he intended to keep forever and didn't want or needed another soul. Otherwise he'd be in trouble. Suddenly he heard a noise from behind, as though a tree branch snapped in half. Eldgrimr thought it was nothing and moved on. Little did he know, he was being stalked.
Luwanna was approached by a Sanguinem she didn't recognize and she said "Hey there. What's someone like you doing here?" The Sanguinem said "Hello, my name is Adelaide. I wanted to try and talk with you about something." Luwanna said "If it's another job, don't bother. I already got enough that I don't want to do." Adelaide laughed and said "No it's not that. I wanna talk about something else. Something about souls." Luwanna said "I'm listening." -
Azariah walked forward for quite some time. Their eyes were half-lidded; open just enough to make sure they weren't about to run into anything, but not open all the way. The light coming through the area was enough to hurt their eyes. When they could feel a small incline in the ground, they stopped and turned in the direction of the presence.
"Isn't it odd, how bright it is here? Or is it just me?" They asked calmly.
Fir hesitated before stepping out into view. He gave Azariah a weary look, glancing around. "I'm afraid it's just you," he replied, turning his attention back to the sanguinem. "It's rather average here."
"Ah," Azariah said, looking back ahead. They began to walk again, only glancing back to see if Fir would follow. "I apologize, but I'll have to ask that you follow me a bit longer. There's something I want to look at. Perhaps you can describe all that I can't see, too."
Fir looked at them in slight disbelief, but then again, the sanguinem were a special bunch. He had enough time to entertain Azariah. He followed behind, making sure to keep distance between them. He had no clue how much Azariah knew, or how they would retaliate.
Ethelyn hesitated as she scraped the blood off of her blade. Something had felt off about today. It wasn't common for her to get two gigs alone. Perhaps they had finally realized her full potential? She smirked, setting the weapon down and glancing around. That must be it; they were testing her ability to do her job without help. Obviously, she was flawless.. Well, almost, anyway. -
Enna nods at Faris, and they both silently go into positions. Enna begins his ascension upwards, going up high enough where you wouldn't see him unless you were looking for him. Enna wasn't worried about how far he went; with the tenebris' heightened senses Enna would see the battle just fine.
Faris began to form his own more specific plan, since he seemed to have a little bit of creative liberty. He silently dashed through the shadows, one hand on his gun and one on a bomb- he would quickly weaken the perderent with a surprise attack. Once he was close enough he went ahead and threw the bomb, then he held up his gun and waited for the smoke to clear before shooting.
"I got an easy one... how boring.." Hornet whispers to himself as he watches Joti's conversation play out. He considered himself merciful for letting her have a final conversation with a friend before he murdered her.
"Okay, Jack. Jokes aside, please just tell my mom that I was out babysitting the mortem children or something," Joti says with a pleading pout. "Mishel isn't gonna like this at all if she finds out," Jack warns. -
Eldgrimir walked further and started having the unshakable feeling he was being watched. He then hear the crackling of fire and then a mighty shout "HADOUKEN!" Eld acted swiftly enough to repel the attack back to it's Ignis summoner. Eld said "What are you doing?" The Ignis named Mishel said "You have been sentenced to death by the Infernum." Eldgrimir said "Why? What have I done?" Mishel said "That doesn't matter. You will die now." She shot another ball of fire and Eldgrimir dodged it by teleporting. Eld said "Fine. Come and get me."
Luwanna and Adelaide talked for a while until Luwanna understood the situation. She then said "So. You've been sent to kill me so I can find out where these souls have been escaping to?" Adelaide said "Yes." Lu then said "Will I be able to come back?" "Possibly." Adelaide answered. Luwanna had to think about this for a brief moment. -
Azariah walked without a care in the world, though they were slightly tense. They could tell that Fir wasn't there to chat; the way he had his hands close to his hips, as if he was getting ready to reflexively grab something, was the main giveaway. They had no choice but to lead on, showing no sign of fear. Confidence was key in the mind games. Azariah may have known someone would come, but they had no clue why or what the outcome would be.
"What brings you all the way out here?" They asked, glancing back at the masked stranger.
"I'm here for you," Fir said.
Azariah turned their attention back to what was in front of them. They could tell by the sharper incline in the ground that they were almost to Azariah's destination. "What does that mean, exactly?"
"I'm not sure you'll be happy to find out, Azariah."
Azariah stopped moving for a moment. The body language, the tone of voice.. Was this masked man threatening them? That was a first.
Ethelyn was lost in her own thoughts and heard nothing; at least, not until a bomb was thrown into the alleyway that she had been standing in. She was thrown to the floor and her blade was knocked several feet away. The sound made her ears ring, and she couldn't focus on what was in front of her. But she wasn't about to give up that easily. While the smoke was still in the air, she clawed her way off to the side and rolled onto her back, straining to see even a glimpse of a shadow to indicate who had just attacked her. She grabbed onto her sword hilt, clinging to it for dear life. If that person took even a foot forward, she'd be able to see them, and she'd have to move to strike. It would likely be the only chance she got at taking them down before they got to her. -
Darn, was a bomb a good idea? That's what Enna thought to himself as the smoke made his senses duller and his eyes water. Enna couldn't see where Ethelyn had crawled her way off to, so he took a few steps forward, gun aimed and at the ready for the slightest hint of movement. He had one hand on his gun and one hand inching towards the black knife his brother had given him. Now it was all just a game of who had the better senses; who could move faster, who could dodge faster..
"That's why she won't find out- and, pfft! Even if she did, I still stand by my opinion. Just cause I'm born an ignis doesn't mean I can't be a tenebris. It's a title, not a species!" Joti says. "Haha okay, let that be your slogan ten years from now when I'm voting you for president," Jack says with a chuckle. "Let that be your last laugh when ten seconds from now I'm kicking your butt for scaring away my soul," Joti says as she sticks out her tongue. "Yikes, I'mma head out!" Jack says as he turns invisible. "Face me you coward!" Joti screams into empty air. However, she is surprised to hear the reply of someone who was definitely not Jack.
"Gladly." Hornet says as he reveals himself, unsheathing a huge sword that was atleast 4.5 feet long. -
(I see Hornet is using Cloud's sword)
Luwanna thought for a while and said "Alright, no contest. If I must die to help, then so be it. I'll take it like a Tenebris." She then stood still and Adelaide pulled out a broadsword. Adelaide then asked "Are you sure about this?" Luwanna said "Just do it quick, I don't want to suffer." Adelaide said "In case you don't come back, it's been an honor knowing you for these brief moments." Adelaide the held up her sword and with one quick motion, decapitated Luwanna right where she stood, killing her instantly.
Mishel was getting very frustrated with her fight with Eldgrimir. Eldgrimir kept teleporting all over the place and slashing at her. Her fire kept hitting the trees in the forest more than him. The angrier she got, the more destructive her fire and the more it was a bad idea to get closer, but Eldgrimir kept trying to see if she would eventually give up the pursuit so he could talk about this to the counsel. -
(I thought I recognized it!)
Fir noticed the slight stop in Azariah's steps, and he prepared to engage combat. However, the sanguinem picked back up, and they paid Fir no attention. So he continued to follow the other until they reached the top of the hill. There was a small field of flowers before them. Azariah crouched down, reaching out a finger to lightly stroke one.
"Do you know how we're similar to flowers?" Azariah asked.
"No. Tell me," Fir replied, confused at where they were going with this.
"We want to exist," they said, continuing to run their finger along the flower. "We are born into this world, and we fight to live and grow.. But anyone can take that life from us, if they will it. And another will be born into our place, and nobody will ever notice, because we have one purpose and it can be fulfilled by another so easily.."
Azariah suddenly plucked the flower, raising it to their face so they could examine it better. "I feel like I haven't fulfilled my duties well enough, and yet, I have no time left. Another will take my place."
Fir stared at the sanguinem, unsure of what to say. He hesitated before finally responding. "You will be fulfilling a task of upmost importance. I can assure you that you will be one to be spoken about for years to come, should you fulfill it correctly. So do not worry, Azariah. Your purpose goes beyond our world."
When her attacker took a few steps forward, she could see their outline through the smoke. She inhaled, gathering all of her strength. She was in pain, and her senses were a bit out of tune, but she'd have to fight through it. It was them or her, and she wasn't going to let it be her that died. She suddenly flung herself onto her feet, focusing on the outline that she could see. And, carrying all of her fury with her, Ethelyn dashed forward, aiming for a slash at what she assumed to be her attacker's hand. If she couldn't cut it off, she hoped to at the very least disarm them. When she got closer, she noticed that her attacker was holding a gun; if she had the time to laugh, she would have. -
(It was the best reference image I could find xD unfortunately I don't play the game)
Ethelyn had aimed just right to make a huge cut on Faris's wrist, causing him to drop the gun, only getting a single shot off, which went flying past her way off target. He didn't yell out though, he didn't even grunt from the pain. Now that Ethelyn was close enough to him he took his good hand and grappled her to the ground. Unfortunately, with his bad hand so injured (it looked like a good tug could pull it right off) he had to use his good hand to hold her down and couldn't reach for any more weapons. "Enna!" Faris shouts.
"Took you a while, I was wondering when you would come out!" Joti says. "I.. wait, what?" He asks. "Oh, you know. I sensed your blood from, like, a mile away. I thought you were a weird pervert or something. Glad to see you're just trying to kill me," Joti explains. Joti suddenly uses her knife and cuts a deep long slash down her arm, and her blood sharpens into spikes, growing bigger and sharper as she bled more. Hornet smiles from behind his mask, "Oh.. not boring then." He raises his sword and starts to run towards her.
(Ohhhh people are dying, I'll make a post in the side thread about where the characters go after they die) -
Finally Mishel got angry and had enough of Eldgrimir's tricks. With one lucky fireball, she screamed "HADOUKEN!" and hit Eld right in the center as he teleported to that spot. This sent him back against a tree, badly burned and immobile. Mishel got closer and said "Finally." Eld could only watch as she lit up a new fireball. She then said "Die." and used the fire to incinerate him. Eldgrimir was now dead.
