Glancing at Sylvya occasionally as they ate, Rhyder smiled a bit. She seemed to really like the meal he had made, and he was happy for that. After tasting it himself, he thought it was pretty good, and it looked like Sylvya was enjoying it too. Once she was close to finished, he smiled at her. "So how is it? If you like it, there's still some left if you want more!" He knew he didn't need to ask if she liked it since it was fairly obvious, but he wanted to know what she thought of it. Rhyder was very thankful that he had learned how to make chicken and dumplings before, and now he had a good reason to make it. Smiling to himself, he wondered what other dishes he could make that Sylvya would like.
-
Sylvya quickly finished her bowl and nodded as she swallowed the last bite. "It's..really good! I'll have to do that.." They had worked her hard that day, and it had made her pretty hungry- more so than usual- so she went into the kitchen for more of the delicious food. She dished up about 3/4 of a bowl more for herself and filled her cup with water. Sitting back down at the table, she glanced at Rhyder and blushed before starting to eat again.
-
Rhyder smiled at Sylvya as she sat down and started eating again. "Good, I'm glad you like it!" He quickly finished the last of his meal and got up to do the dishes. He smiled when he thought about how much Sylvya liked what he had made. He had been nervous about whether or not he had done well at first, but he was reassured when she liked it. Figuring now would be as good a time as any to ask, he paused from doing the dishes and turned to Sylvya. "Do you have any other meals you really like? I can make them for dinners if you want..." He trailed off, hoping that he wasn't prying too much.
-
Sylvya finished her food and set the bowl near the sink for Rhyder. She had grabbed a towel and was ready to dry the dishes he had finished with. She hesitated and frowned. He had been acting strange, really friendly and overly enthusiastic; it was weird. He seemed really concerned with her and was asking a lot of questions. She shrugged and turned her attention to cleaning off the counter a bit, emotionally closing herself off again. "Eh, I eat anything."
-
Rhyder took that as a sign that he was trying to get closer than he should at this point and dropped the subject with a nod and an "alright." He realized that he had been trying to get closer to Sylvya faster than he should have been, and felt a little bad for being pushy. Directing his attention back to the dishes, he closed his mind off from everything but the task at hand. He tried to keep concentrating on the dishes, but thoughts of Sylvya still flowed through his head.
-
Sylvya spent the time in silence, awkwardly drying and putting away the dishes as they were handed to her. Maybe she had been to harsh with him.. But he had been acting strange. She wasn't sure what else to do. She bit her lip and continued with her little chore.
-
After finishing the dishes, Rhyder was at a loss for what to do next. His behavior had caused some awkwardness between them, and without any more chores to distract himself, he was very nervous. Taking the cowards way out of the situation, he decided to retreat for a bit. "Hey, I'm going to go take a shower really quick, I'll be back." As he was leaving the kitchen, he paused and turned to Sylvya. "And thanks for your help with the dishes, I appreciate it." With those final words, Rhyder retreated to the bedroom to grab some clothes and went into the bathroom for a shower.
-
Sylvya tilted her head in confusion once he had left. Didn't he already take a shower today..? She shrugged it off and went to the bedroom. Grabbing a deck of cards from her bedside table, she took a seat on the bed and began playing solitaire. Perhaps she had been too hard on Rhyder..all he had been doing was trying to be friendly. There were living together, after all, and he was probably just trying to make it easier. She sighed and tried to concentrate on her game, but it didn't work. She stared out the window, absentmindedly finger-brushing her hair, considering how much of a jerk she was.
-
Letting the water roll over him, Rhyder regretted retreating from the kitchen. The shower helped him clear his head, but that just made him realize how stupid he had been to run from Sylvya. Resolving himself to apologize to her for acting like he did after his shower, he turned off the water and dried off. As he was getting dressed, he realized that he had forgotten to grab a fresh shirt in his rush to the bathroom. Not wanting to put on his dirty shirt, he decided to just slip into the bedroom and get into a shirt before seeing Sylvya again. He figured that she would probably be in the living room or the dining room, so it shouldn't be a problem. After getting the rest of the way dressed, he slipped out of the bathroom and into the bedroom. He stopped suddenly when he walked into the bedroom and saw Sylvya on the bed. He wanted to slip back into the bathroom but was too shocked to move for some reason.
-
Sylvya had been staring out the window, playing with a strand of hair when she heard a door open behind her. A few seconds later, she heard Rhyder walk into the room and stop. Curious as to why, she turned to look..and froze. There he was, shirtless and staring at her. Now, she had seen shirtless dudes before. Hell, when it got to 100 degrees out, there wasn't a guy in the whole camp that wasn't top-bare during training. But this, as they say, was different. She really enjoyed looking at Rhyder like this. She kept staring, but not at his face.. After a few seconds, she snapped herself out of it and cleared her throat nervously. "Ah..did you want something?" She didn't get the innuendo until after she said it, and inwardly kicked herself for being so stupid. Well, better for him to be shirtless and have her say it to him than for her be shirtless and him say it to her. She shook that thought from her head and waited for his answer.
-
Rhyder shook himself from his shocked state and glanced away from Sylvya, embarrassed. He was embarrassed fro having forgotten a shirt as well as to be stared at, though he understand the situation they were in would inevitably cause some staring. The innuendo also caused him to blush lightly, but he shook the thought from his mind since he knew that's not what she meant by it. "I, uh... forgot to grab a shirt before my shower..." Quickly hurrying over and grabbing a shirt from his side of the dresser, he slipped it on and turned around. "Sorry about walking in on you while I was like that, and sorry if I was acting creepy earlier..." Rhyder was a bit worried that all that had happened might make her hate him, and that was not something he wanted.
-
Sylvya was more amused than anything at the situation, and went back to playing cards when Rhyder went to put on a shirt. She didn't allow herself to blush until she looked down at the cards. Upon hearing his apology, she frowned. Apologies weren't really in her line of business. There were "we made a mistake"s and "deal with it"s and "oops"s, but rarely did she actually hear someone other than the recruits say sorry. Usually a shoulder pat or a small favor took place instead of words when an apology was in order. It was kind of awkward now, and she shifted uncomfortably. "Uh..it's fine? To..both. It's alright." She was ready to slit her own throat, her and her social skills.
-
Rhyder noticed Sylvya's uncomfortable shift and decided to drop the subject. She said it was fine and it didn't look like she wanted to talk about it anymore, so he moved on. He had slung his towel over his shoulder when he left the bathroom, so we went back in and hung it up. Entering the bedroom again, he walked over to his side of the bed and glanced at Sylvya's cards. It looked like she was playing solitaire, and he smiled a bit as he watched for a moment before picking up a book from his stack and opening it to his bookmark. As he tried to read while Sylvya played, he found that he kept glancing at her and was having trouble concentrating on his book.
-
Sylvya was having close to the same problem. Every now and then, she would glance over at him, the feel bad for doing so and turned back to her cards. She really enjoyed looking at Rhyder and wasn't sure why. Okay, she knew why. He was hot..and cute..and beautiful. Sylvya wasn't sure how one guy could do that, but there he was, sitting not three feet away from her, reading a book. Her face turned as red as the two of hearts she was holding, and she quickly turned back to her game, which she was losing thanks to her distraction.
-
After a few minutes of this, Rhyder had completely given up on reading his book. He couldn't concentrate at all on what he was reading, and the book was only open at this point so it would appear like he was reading. Right now, it was his excuse to sit by Sylvya and glance at her from time to time. She was beautiful and unbelievably hot, like no one Rhyder had ever seen. The red of her hair may have been because of the dye, but Rhyder found it attractive all the same. He had heard that redheads were hot, but Sylvya took it to a whole new level. After a while, his leg started to fall asleep, so he closed his book and stretched. He wanted to ask Sylvya if she wanted to do something like watch a movie, but he wasn't sure if he should bring it up now or in a bit.
