He felt her touch his chin, waiting impatiently for the knife to cut his throat. He could feel the edge, but not the slightest bit of pain. He was actually annoyed that she was taking her sweet time to end his life.
-
For the first time in centuries, Ava felt legitimate guilt. This was a human who had trusted her, and hadn't expected anything but justice for his sister, and she was ruining that. Most of them were as willing to leave her behind as she was to kill the man in front of her. She slid away from him and dropped the knife into his lap, disgusted at herself for caring.
-
Ira was even more confused at her change of heart, but simply scooted away to get some distance in case she was trying to play with his mind again. "Why..? Just who are you, Ava?"
-
"I wasn't directly responsible for your sister's death, if that's what you're wondering." She couldn't meet his gaze, and was coming up with excuses for why she hadn't taken his life. It was so much easier in planning.
-
"Are you responsible in any way?" Ira continued to stare at her, ready to take her in if necessary. But if she cooperated, he'd consider letting her be. "Do you know where he is?"
-
She sighed. "No, but I could find him easy enough. There's no point in trying to take me in, if that's what you're thinking. You won't find anything about me, at all. And... yes, I was responsible at first. He went overboard, though."
-
"What do you mean by 'at first'? And you still haven't told me who you really are. There's no way you're just some random woman." Ira carefully stood, guard completely up by now.
-
She ignored his questions, and stood up. "Do you mind if I take off these contacts? They're really uncomfortable and I don't think I could really make the situation much worse right now." Ava headed for the bathroom.
-
"They're your eyes, why would it matter to me..?" He mumbled as she left the kitchen. He wasn't sure what was going on, but he knew that Ava wasn't going to be any good for him.
-
She came out of the bathroom a minute or two later, and glanced up at him with almost crimson eyes. "So..." she murmured, her arms crossed in a wounded, defensive position as she stared at the floor a few feet away from them.
-
Ira stared at her eyes before she could look away and narrowed his own. "Now you're starting to piss me off. Stop messing around and explain yourself! I'll ask again, who are you?!" He balled his hands into fists, keeping one near the hilt that held his gun.
-
"I'm Ava Eyth, a demon from the eighth circle of hell. I was kicked out, so for the past... I'm not sure how long, I've been influencing people, so they'll sin themselves into hell and take me with them." She noticed that he moved his hand to his gun, and glared up at him.
-
"A demon? Do you think I'm an idiot? I don't believe in such tall tails. Who are you really? Some crime lord out to get me for whatever reason?" Demons, Hell? What kind of sick joke is this? Ira glared right back at her, watching for an threatening movements.
-
"You're not getting any other answer. That's the truth, I promise. I don't do this very often, but I'm being honest. And you're paranoid, really. If I were a crime lord, or whatever, I wouldn't come here myself. You seem gullible enough to believe anyone who offers you a bit of help." She frowned a bit.
-
Ira puffed his cheeks in annoyance, his face turning red from embarrassment. So what if he accepted help when it was offered? It was only because it was rare that he ever got any help. "I see no proof that you are telling the truth. Such things don't exist anyway. And some people prefer to take control of a situation themselves. Anyway, do what you want, just leave me alone.." He pushed past her to get to his bedroom.
