"Well, I scheduled it for... yeah, he should be. In fact, next light or two, probably." Ava looked out the window, trying to see if she recognized any of the people driving past.
-
Ira nodded and stepped out. "I could shoot out his tires, but that could cause a worse outcome. So I'll just watch for anyone questionable. You can join me if you'd like."
-
She joined him outside the car, watching for anyone who looked familiar. "Wait. Ira, we need to try something," she said, with slight urgency in her voice.
-
"What do you have in mind, Ava? We'll have to hurry, and it needs to not kill him." Ira didn't quite well trust her, but she was the only one that knew anything.
-
"I scheduled it for a certain time. Maybe we could delay it? The time ehen he reaches the bridge, I mean. It's not like he's been planning it since I scheduled it, he'll only want to when he reaches the stoplight." His distrust wasn't all that cute, really. It was more annoying, and she intended to end it.
-
"Delay the time, huh..Shall we look for him in the cruiser and pull him over before he gets here? Or do you have another idea that would make more sense?"
-
"Pulling him over should work, I think." She tried to bring his face back to memory. "He's a slightly older man, mid-fifties, I think, but he wasn't losing very much hair yet. I'm guessing he's going to be driving a truck. He seemed like the truck type."
-
"Well let's hurry back and watch for him. What happens if he makes it to the light? Would we be able to stop him then, too, or would it be too late..?" Ira asked as he hurried back to his vehicle.
-
She shrugged, and looked at him once they were both in the car. "You're the cop. You should know, but I think we could."
-
"What I mean is if you basically set it up to happen, would it be too late if we couldn't stop him before he reached the light? You said he didn't plan it. When he reaches the light, it just happens." He drove over near the side of the road, watching every which way.
-
"If we pull him over for a few minutes, I think I'll be able to stop hi-- There!" She pointed to a grey truck just before it passed them.
-
"You can change it?" Ira just before she pointed out the man. He turned on his siren and quickly came up behind him. They'd just have to hope that he'd stop.
-
Fortunately, the man did stop and pull over when there was a spot open for him to do so. When Ira pulled over, partially blocking him from leaving by using the bike lane, Ava looked over at him. "What do you plan on saying?"
-
"I didn't really have much time to think about what I was going to say. Too bad you don't have a uniform. I'm sure you could have thought of something on the spot." Ira sighed as he thought. "Stolen vehicle accusation maybe..? He wasn't really speeding..."
-
"You're right, I could've. You should get me a uniform." Ava got out of the car and walked over to the driver's window of the truck, and reached up to knock on it. She found it difficult not to grin as the man stared at her with bewilderment, leaning out of the vehicle. When she placed her hand on his arm, he didn't seem to notice.
